What’s So Cool About NOW?

13.22 … He watches, gives blessing, bears all, feels all. He is called the Lord Supreme and the Supreme Soul.

13.23 He who knows in truth this Spirit and knows nature with its changing conditions, wherever this man may be he is no more whirled round by fate. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 13)

here and now

Why are we instructed to stay in the moment when possible? Because in this moment eternity meets time and space. In this very moment God and divinity are present. At this time spirit and wisdom becomes accessible. Peace and joy are at hand.

Ok, so why can’t we feel and know all this good stuff??

attention

Pure attention is required. We must look at and experience things as they are. When done with pure attention, no thoughts about the thing or experience are generated inside our head. When that happens, the eternal moment and all its goodness starts to become apparent. Practice makes perfect. It’s a muscle that slowly grows and yields amazing results! Try it!

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM fully attentive.

What’s The Best Meditation?

12.12 For concentration is better than mere practice, and meditation is better than concentration; but higher than meditation is surrender in love of the fruit of one’s actions, for on surrender follows peace. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 12)

meditation

There are a myriad different techniques that fall under the umbrella of meditation, here are some that I share on NamasteNow. In general meditation techniques range from concentration to chanting to reflection and so on. Any practice that softens us, helps us become more open minded, become more tolerant, forgiving, grateful and loving is good!

surrender in love…

According to this holy book of the Hindus, surrendering all action to God and in love is the way to peace and happiness. When we’re at peace, we can more easily enjoy the inspiration and love that rain down on us from all directions. Only when our desires and the constant mind chatter peter down can we hope to tap into this ever-present Universal resource…. Lets practice!

Daily Affirmation: Today I lovingly surrender!

The Zen Of Enlightenment

Zen opens a man’s eyes to the greatest mystery as it is daily and hourly performed; it enlarges the heart to embrace eternity of time and infinity of space in its every palpitation; it makes us live in the world as if walking in the garden of Eden. D.T. Suzuki

zen –> awareness

The word Zen (Japanese) comes from the Chinese Chán which is derived from the Indian word dhyāna. Constant meditation, or paying full attention to all that we do and to all that we are, is the essence of Zen practice. Mind-fullness leads to greater awareness of self and our surroundings.

awareness –> enlightenment

Increasing awareness in turn leads to true understanding. When we understand things to be as they are, we start to see, we start living in wisdom. In such a state we’re joyous, enjoy a keen intellect, love life, get along with most folks and cannot be disappointed or saddened for too long.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM joyous and wise.

Why History Repeats Itself…

Our difficulty is to make the mind revolve slowly so that each thought-feeling can be followed and understood. What is deeply and thoroughly understood will not repeat itself. Krishnamurti

history carousel

Our mind is a whirlwind of thoughts. It’s constantly in motion and often spins around the same set of thoughts. That is the essential cause for us repeating personal and societal histories. Becoming aware of that movement of thoughts is the first step we can take toward gaining mastery over our mind and therefore the course of our life.

slow motion living

We’re all told that we should practice living in the moment. But how can we do that? Let’s consider the idea of ‘slow motion’ living. To achieve mindfulness and present-centeredness, we just need to slow down. Let’s take more deliberate steps while walking, breathe deeply and with intent, notice something fully and watch our thoughts. When our body has slowed down, because of our deeper breathing, our mind follows. We can then watch our thoughts, our reactions, our hopes and our desires. By watching, by becoming aware, we can deeply understand self. Only wisdom and happiness can result from that…

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM a deep breather.

I AM Because I AM…

10.39 … I am the seed of all things that are; and that no being that moves or moves not can ever be without me.

10.42 Know that with one single fraction of my Being I pervade and support the Universe, and know that I AM.The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 10)

no place to go

No place to go where God isn’t; no thought to think without the I AM experiencing it, nothing to do without God. We live in the very substance of God. Truly have we nothing to worry about, we come from God, we live and have our being in him and we’re headed towards an increasing realization of All That Is…

i am

I AM is the original postulate. God just is. He lives and inhabits the present moment, completely, and he encompasses all time and space. We can identify with him and know his nature, if we but choose to do so. He waits patiently, all-the-while surrounding us with unconditional love…

Why Truth and Love Must Combine…

… the writer’s great weapon is the truth and integrity of his voice. And as long as what you’re saying is what you truly, honestly believe to be the case, then whatever the consequences, that’s fine.Salman Rushdie

authors

We are all authors. Authors of our lives. Authors of our relationships. And authors of how we experience what happens to us. We design whether we’re happy or miserable.

truth

Truth must be a guiding principle. Unless we’re true to self and truth-oriented in general, we’ll never be at ease in this universe. There comes a time when our truth isn’t anyone else’s. Which means that our interpretation of life isn’t accepted by someone else. What’s the way forward? Combine truth with love. The two should be inseparable. Truth by itself can be dry and love alone might be ineffective. Life is always more than it appears…
