How We Can Be Happy Now…

…that you can be happy right here, not tomorrow, not in ten minutes, but now. You can be happy right now.  – Byron Katie

now

We can choose to be happy now. It’s a choice we make, it’s the way we think and it’s the way we view our world. What will we choose right now?

happy no matter what?

How can we be happy if the world is crashing around us? How can we be happy if we’ve just lost a dear one? One way to effect that is to activate the faith we all have. We can have faith that God is in charge. We can believe that life is eternal. We can express gratitude for everything that is working in our lives.

How To Be Spiritual!

To be real is to be spiritual.  – Vernon Howard

spirituality

We aspire to be spiritual. But what does that feel like? How can spirituality be defined? Here’s a dictionary definition:

spir·i·tu·al [ spírrichoo əl ]

  1. of soul: relating to the soul or spirit, usually in contrast to material things
  2. of religion: relating to religious or sacred things rather than worldly things
  3. temperamentally or intellectually akin: connected by an affinity of the mind, spirit, or temperament

be real

‘To be real is to be spiritual’! So pithy, so perfect and fit a definition of spirituality! What does being real mean though? Here’s an interpretation along a few of life’s dimensions:

  • Self: See my self as I truly am. Understand my thoughts, desires and emotions along with their origin. Know my place in the Universe. Know my relationship to divinity. Learn to be happy.
  • Family: Understand my duty to family. Understand relationships as they are. Help others be happy.
  • Society: Know my responsibility to Life. Act on making life better for everyone.
  • By being real we understand self and situations. We’re well prepared to live a happy and productive life. We are spiritual.

How To Banish Worry (series)

Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.Leo Buscaglia

reasons for worry

How can we stop worrying? There’s so much to do, much that needs our attention, relationships to tend and a never ending list of new things that keep cropping up! We’re responsible for family and self, how can we not worry? Right?

life principles

1st Principle to Overcome Worry: Live in “day tight compartments.”

Here’s a bit of background on this principle from this site:

“This term was first coined by Sir William Osler when he encountered this life-changing quote from Thomas Carlisle, “It is not our goal to see what lies dimly in the distance but to do what clearly lies at hand.”

Why worry when we can live in joy now and today? Let’s live in ‘day tight compartments’. By doing that we get accustomed to focusing on the here and the now. We deal with issues based on their relevance to today, only. Let’s try it!

How To Understand FEAR…

You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith.  – Mary Manin Morrissey

false evidence appearing real (F.E.A.R)

If we watch our thoughts, especially how they initiate and where they lead, we’ll become cognizant of how much fear and worry dominate our lives. Some of it arises from our animal instinctual nature and the rest is self-manufactured and habitual. It’s quite a waste and very harmful to self. What will we do about it?

faith and love

The antidote to fear is reasoned faith and love. The nagging negative voice inside us must be identified. Becoming aware of it then allows us to supplant it with the logic driven faith that a higher power is in control. A love and service driven life can reinforce the central premise that we live in an ordered and purposeful Universe. When love is fully present within us fear cannot co-exist.

How To Find More Meaning In Life!

The more meaning we find in life, the more meaning we find in life…  – NamasteNow!

true happiness

True happiness is a product of finding enduring meaning in life. Meaning can certainly evolve and grow, but meaning we must have if we are to be happy campers on this planet! What is it that truly drives us? Are we being truthful when we say it’s the nice things like ‘family’, ‘relationships’, ‘fun’ etc.? Discovering what drives us will lead us to uncover meaning in our lives.

find meaning

We must spend time ruminating and acting on what drives us. An example is discovering that to be happy in a job we must work with like-minded individuals. Once we figure that out we ought to seek job opportunities that allow us to do just that. Once we start becoming happier at our jobs we are more likely to discover greater meaning in other aspects of life. One feeds the other, find meaning in one aspect of life spurs finding meaning in the rest of our lives! Let’s go seek more meaning!
