Who is wise?

He who knows others is learned; he who knows himself is wise.Lao-tzu

Knowledge is key, it’s often said. Seems to me that even before we can understand and know others; be effective in relationships with them, we must know our own selves a great deal.

What does it mean to know thyself?

It can mean several things and at several levels:

  1. Know our hidden motives and agendas. Are we conscious of why we do what we do?
  2. Know what keeps us going; Know our deepest values; what’s most important to us. What makes us happy/sad?
  3. Know how others perceive us and how we impact their lives.
  4. Know our place in this universe.

It’s not a small undertaking; which is why we have an entire life to explore the universe that’s inside us and is us! Bon Voyage!

Highest attainments…

Reason, wisdom, and faith are man’s highest human attainments.

The Urantia Papers, (103:9.6)

These attainments have nothing to do with career, business or fame, at least directly; instead they involve those aspects of life that we will carry with us even beyond this life!

These 3 areas cover the major aspects of life:

  • Reason: Is about developing your mind and intellect. Reason guides us regarding the things of this world. A well developed intellect is essential for any kind of worldly achievement. Reason is about IQ.
  • Wisdom: Wisdom is all about finding truth, dealing with others and relationships. And thus is a crucial quality to have, it’s about Emotional Quotient or EQ!
  • Faith: Opens the door to everything else that’s essential to our lives. It’s the path to a life of religion; knowing God or Universal Mind, it leads to the very source of everything. Faith is eventually about LQ, Love Quotient, because the real fruit of ‘true religion’ is the blossoming of a pure love, from within.

Living with honor

The greatest way to live with honor in this world is to be what we pretend to be.Socrates

We pretend so many things. We portray, often, a different person than we truly are, to others.

Pay attention to what it is that we try to portray to others. Are those qualities that lead to more Truth, greater Beauty and deeper Goodness?

If so then it’s incumbent upon us to truly be those qualities. Here’s an example: We’re often super nice to folks outside our home. Certainly that’s a great quality to have. Now how about we make it real so that we’re truly nice, most of the time, even with family? That would mean we won’t have to pretend any more. It would mean we’re being honest to our core and living with honor!

The greatest power!

The greatest power is often simple patience.E. Joseph Cossman

Patience can and does go a long way. Peer into your mind and you’ll find many areas, habits, goals and desires where you’re not being patient. You want a certain result and you want it real soon! How realistic is that? And does that impatience really get you what you want? Is what you want; a real need?

You’ll find a great satisfaction and yes a great power when you can just let things be. If you don’t chase anything, but instead are patient, that thing tends to come to you much sooner. Discover that power, the power of patience! Try it on one particular life aspect after you recognize your impatience with it and see what happens! As events turn you’ll either be surprised with that which you always wanted or you’ll discover that what turned up in your life instead is far better for you.

Your choice!

You can choose to be a person who has resulted simply from what has happened, or from what you’ve chosen to be and do about what has happened.Neale Donald Walsch

It’s really up to you.

How you react to life events is a decision you make! Jack Canfield shares the following formula:

E + R = O

Event plus our reaction to that event results in an outcome. The event is what it is; how we choose to be (sad, happy, indifferent etc.) and to do (shout, smile, lash out, learn…) is a choice we make every time.

Our peace is entirely up to us because we control our reaction to all external stimuli. How do you choose to react? Rather how do you choose to be?

Gratitude is the key!

Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.Oprah Winfrey

Fear and love cannot co-exist, we must make place for love to replace fear. Forgiveness is the key to opening the channel of love; passing that love on to others increases your experience of love and joy.

Finally gratitude is the next step in cementing your foothold on a fulfilling life overflowing with joy and purpose!

After you’ve forgiven one and all (Forgiving for our own sake…), spend time just being thankful for everyone and everything in your life. You’ll feel the joy swell up in your being as you do that.

Life is simple; Life is good. Enjoy it!

Forgiving for our own sake…

The forgiving state of mind is a magnetic power for attracting good.Catherine Ponder

Yesterday I mentioned that you can light the candle of love (to remove fear) inside your heart and gain direct access to an endless flow of love from the Universal Source. The ‘how of it’ is done by simply being in a state of forgiveness.

  • Forgive yourself: At the deepest level as well as for the trifles of life.
  • Forgive all: Forgive all those who have wronged you; even those who irritate you and especially those who you resent.

When you do that you open a spiritual channel (even a physical one) where you’re now able to receive actual love from the Divine Source. Try the following specifically:

Sit and try one of the Stillness techniques. Then connect with God (Universal Mind) via prayer. If you don’t believe in a personal God then simply sit after this stillness practice; now start forgiving. As you forgive you’ll feel a corresponding lightness in your body, especially around your heart. This, over time, will allow joy to surge inside you. You will be healed of many physical and psychological ailments.  Repeat daily.

Forgiveness opens you up to receive love, which heals, at the deepest levels. To go all the way, there’s another step, tell you about it tomorrow!
