What Is True Wisdom?

13.2 Know that I am the knower in all the fields of my creation; and that the wisdom which sees the field and the knower of the field is true wisdom. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 13)

wisdom?

What is wisdom?

  • Is it an ability to understand things as they are?
  • Does it help in understanding origins and destinies?
  • Does it aid in living happily?

true wisdom

According to the supreme God personality speaking via The Gita true wisdom is when we realize that God is the ‘field’, the creation and that she’s the knower of her creation as well. God is the knower and that which is knowable.

God creates us to experience totality, to experience what she is, to enjoy being limited and thus finds a way to escape her infinity…We are her children in this eternal adventure, we have nowhere to go but to her, we are safe now and forever!

The Three Minds And A Habit!

God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it’s me. – Change Quotes

the 3 minds

There’s the rational mind, the emotional mind and in this categorization the higher or spiritual mind. Unless all 3 are involved in our change efforts, change or success will be hard to reach.

  • Rational Mind: It must make logical sense for us to pursue a change goal. It could be better health that draws us towards an exercise goal and we then see how it can benefit us in the long run.
  • Emotional Mind: We must be passionate about the change we want to see in our lives. Without such emotional involvement the goal won’t mean much, but if we have meaning attached to our purpose then very little stands between us and our goals!
  • Higher Mind: We must have a higher purpose. Without a lofty goal that takes us beyond our routine life, change will be hard. If our change goal is tied to our ‘Life Purpose’ then movement towards such a goal will be swift!

Success is guaranteed when the 3 minds work in tandem towards a goal that unifies our entire personality, our logical mind, our emotions and our highest leanings!

the personal success rhythm

As we embark on a change journey we need a rhythm, a  personal success habit. The tips given in a previous change blog, Making Time For The Important Stuff can be used to to create such a daily success rhythm. Once we have that rhythm going, success will become just another habit. It’s an established fact that any habit takes about 4 weeks to become one. Let’s attempt to do daily that for which we want to create new neuron pathways! Can we make a pledge today to establish such a rhythm?

eft & pstec

Emotional baggage from our childhood and our past in general can be a major drag on our present. Many of us have suffered traumas that we haven’t fully processed yet. These can be a heavy albatross around our change efforts. Luckily, other than psycho-therapy there are some self-programming and hypnosis tools that can do wonders:

  • EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques): This is an amazing self-help tool that combines meridian tapping and affirmations to root out emotional issues that drag us down and even those that are the cause of our current day physical ailments. The tapping erases neural pathways that obstruct present day normal functioning.
  • PSTec: Another amazing tool that uses pattern interruption and self-hypnosis to remove unhealthy neural pathways. By using this technique one can remove phobias, fears, depression, compulsions, resentments and even program positive emotions instead.

These tools are highly recommended and they help us to face the issue and to neutralize root emotional causes…

What’s Our ‘Immunity To Change’?

I learned that although God loves us, he doesn’t grant us immunity from the consequences of our choices.Donna Rice

immunity to change

Once we’ve streamlined our day and have discovered more time to devote to our transformation let’s figure out next steps…

In our journey even when we know what to change and attempt to change it, we fail, often miserably.

Why?

One reason, and there are others which we’ll discuss, is our ‘Immunity To Change’. This concept is made famous by Robert Kegan who wrote the book on it.

He explains that we have undiscovered and unconscious motivations and belief structures that work against us whenever we attempt to change at a conscious level.

It’s what we’re conscious about versus what we’re not conscious about. The two clash and derail our change efforts!

discovery and action

First we must discover our ‘Immunity Map’, which is a step-by-step process:

  1. An improvement goal: It has to be the one thing we want to change badly or what others close to us think we need to most change.
  2. What works against: Then we list out the various things we do or fail to do that work against our improvement goal.
  3. Competing Commitments: Next we list out all our competing commitments and what worry’s us most…
  4. Big Assumptions: This exercise then reveals a final column of our big assumptions in life.

Once we’ve discovered the ‘Big Assumptions’ that run our life, we can try specific experiments to test out these assumptions. These experiments grow bigger in scope until we’re rid of these assumptions that run so contrary to our well-being.

How Do I Fix It?

If we have not quiet in our minds, outward comfort will do no more for us than a golden slipper on a gouty foot. John Bunyan

why?

Here’s the amazing thing … We know how to fix most situations, we know what will help and what will soothe … but we’re still not able to do it? Why? Here are some reasons:

  • Lack of correct understanding: We might be aware only of the peripheral issue not the deep seated one.
  • Lack of skill: Don’t know what skills to apply in a given situation.
  • Hypnosis: We’re hypnotized, we live our daily lives like zombies, we keep going like the Energizer Bunny!

rocket science?

It’s not rocket science and once understood effecting positive change in our lives is fairly straight-forward. Will power is not the key. Stay tuned as we explore this whole subject in the coming days.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM the subject.

Why Truth and Love Must Combine…

… the writer’s great weapon is the truth and integrity of his voice. And as long as what you’re saying is what you truly, honestly believe to be the case, then whatever the consequences, that’s fine.Salman Rushdie

authors

We are all authors. Authors of our lives. Authors of our relationships. And authors of how we experience what happens to us. We design whether we’re happy or miserable.

truth

Truth must be a guiding principle. Unless we’re true to self and truth-oriented in general, we’ll never be at ease in this universe. There comes a time when our truth isn’t anyone else’s. Which means that our interpretation of life isn’t accepted by someone else. What’s the way forward? Combine truth with love. The two should be inseparable. Truth by itself can be dry and love alone might be ineffective. Life is always more than it appears…

The Key To Higher Self-Esteem…

Self-acceptance is my refusal to be in an adversarial relationship to myself. Nathaniel Branden

self

Our mind is made up of many psychological parts. The ego itself can be divided into some of the following, here’s basic info on them:

  • The Protector: This is the part that wants to protect us and ensure that we don’t take unnecessary risks.
  • The Critic: This part is what calls us silly or ugly. It’s what we use to criticize us and others. It’s also our motivator.
  • The Image Consultant: Wants us to behave in certain ways so that we’re acceptable to others…
  • The Skeptic: It’s the part that notices inconsistencies with our thinking and must be convinced about a certain decision, ensures that we don’t get scammed.
  • The Wounded child: This is the main-stay of our psyche, all other parts protect this one. Here’s more on it.

When our psyche is fragmented or we have trouble unifying some of these parts, all kinds of emotional trouble is let loose. We can feel disoriented, incomplete, think that we’re forgetting something, feel unreasoned fear and many similar symptoms.

accepting self

Unification of personality comes from some of the following activities:

  • Meditation and mind-fullness
  • Journaling and clear-thinking
  • Prayer and faith

Increasing self-awareness is the key. We can then know when we’re at odds with our own self. That leads to correct thinking which results in happiness!
