The Fragility Of The Life That We Live…

How can one meditate on life without meditating too on its brevity, its precariousness, its fragility?André Comte-Sponville

life is fragile

Extremely fragile. Just this morning (2/24/2012) I learnt that a close teenaged relative suffered a sudden brain aneurysm, collapsed and is in the hospital right now undergoing surgery. We are all praying hard. Please pray with us.

Update 2/26/2012:

What Is Real Integrity?

Do not want others to know what you have done? Better not have done it anyways.Chinese Sayings

hard!

It’s almost impossible to have integrity 24 x 7! It’s hard to be who we truly are. It’s hard to not gossip. It’s hard to be 100% honest in all our dealings. It’s hard to not tell a white lie. It’s hard to be real. It’s hard to have full integrity.

fearless living

On the other hand imagine the opposite; where we can be who we are (without hurting anyone), we can say to people what we think on their face and we can be honest inside/out and in every which way possible! Imagine such fearless living!

What If…

If we simply decided to believe and act as if first, we’re all one, and second, life is eternal, it would render virtually everything we’ve done all our lives pointless.Neale Donald Walsch

What Matters Most?

What will matter to us most when we are old?Questions…

time is passing

With every breath and with each passing day, time is passing. It’s passing much faster than we realize. What can that mean to us? How are we utilizing this amazing talent that’s been gifted to us?

most important

We must all decide what’s most important to us. What is it that matters most? When we explore this individually and collectively what values become clear and most dear?

Who’s More Important?

The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated.William James

who?

Whenever we’re chatting with another person it behooves us to listen and to pay proper attention. The other person must be more important than anything else on our minds. If this is not the case we shouldn’t be chatting, we should politely leave the conversation. Let’s discover why the other person is important to us and express that sentiment!

life principles

9th Dale Carnegie Principle: Make the other person feel important – and do it sincerely.

Here’s a story from the book:

Chris was a very quiet, shy boy lacking in self-confidence, the kind of student that often does not receive the attention he deserves. I also teach an advanced class that had grown to be somewhat of a status symbol and a privilege for a student to have earned the right to be in it.

On Wednesday, Chris was diligently working at his desk. I really felt there was a hidden fire deep inside him. I asked Chris if he would like to be in the advanced class. How I wish I could express the look in Chris’s face, the emotions in that shy fourteen-year-old boy, trying to hold back his tears.

“Who me, Mr. Rowland? Am I good enough?”

“Yes, Chris you are good enough”

I had to leave at that point because tears were coming to my eyes. As Chris walked out of class that day, seemingly two inches taller, he looked at me with bright blue eyes and said in a positive voice, “Thank you, Mr. Rowland.”

Chris taught me a lesson I will never forget—our deep desire to feel important. To help me never forget this rule, I made a sign which reads, “YOU ARE IMPORTANT.” This sign hangs in the front of the classroom for all to see and to remind me that each student I face is equally important

What Are We Sowing?

What a person plants, he will harvest. Galatians 6:7

consequences

We all seem to have an inherent sense of the laws that pervade our universe. We know for example that the seasons follow a certain rhythm and that what goes up must come down. Many also believe that we shall ‘reap what we sow’. How might this truth impact our daily living? Why is it important to understand this?

what goes around…

Thoughts come first. And thoughts are as real as physical deeds and actions. Our intentions are thoughts too. So our intentions are important. Our attitude is another form of thinking thoughts and yields its own impact. Thoughts are vibrations and whatever we intend or project is carried across time and space to people and events around us. Nothing is secret to the Universe. All that we do and think is transparent to the laws that govern our existence. What would happen if we live with the full integrity of knowing this truth? In other words what would happen if don’t think ill of anyone and if we conduct our lives knowing that we are an open book?

How Can We Be More Real?

Do you think crying is a sign of weakness?Questions…

cry?

Why do so many of us hesitate to cry? Why can’t we fully express ourselves? What are we afraid of? What’ll happen if others see us as we truly are? What’s the worst-case scenario when we are real with others and self?

transparency

There’s real value in expressing who we truly are. When we do that we find self. What we don’t like about self will emerge. What we love will also emerge. We may not be the best judge of what’s good or not so good within us. If we don’t express fully, the best of us will stay submerged inside us just like the worst. Let it all come out. We can be adults, we will deal with it! We will change what’s necessary…
