FLaG It!

The affairs of the world will go on forever. Do not delay the practice of meditation.Milarepa

the steps

Meditation is that one practice that’ll help you center; help you connect; help you find your self and put you on the path to true happiness.

Here’s a quick easy to remember practice: Settle down first, become physically comfortable, but not so comfortable that falling asleep would be easy! Now take 3 deep breaths and devote the following to God, the Universe or your inner holy self:

F is for Forgiveness: Forgive all the people in your life. Especially those who are always on your mind and with who your relationship isn’t the best. Forgive all past circumstances that also occupy mindal real-estate. Even forgive God or the Universe. Do forgive your own self. Remind yourself to not be harsh and instead be gentle with self instead.

L is for Love: Now that you’ve opened spiritual and physical channels in your being through forgiveness, seek the love that’s inside your heart. Seek God’s love. Ask that your being be filled with this ever present love. Receive this love and become a channel for this love at the same time. Imagine yourself as a bucket, love flows into you from the top of your head, fills you up, quenches your thirst and then flows out of your heart into everyone around you, your loved ones, your neighbors and the whole world! Revel in this love, it’s palpable!

a is for &

G is for Gratitude: Now that you can feel this love. Be grateful for everything. Your body, mind, whole being, family, circumstances, health, job, you name it. Be thankful for it all!

ps: Thanks to my friend Mick Das for coining the acronym FLaG!

practice

5 minutes in the morning, 5 in the evening and possibly 5 during the day. That’s all it takes, make it a life habit and you’ll never look back. Don’t make it any longer initially unless you feel up to it, increase the time spent as you wish, but don’t make it a compulsion that’ll keep you from undertaking this practice.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM still, I devote time to connect.

Love Triumphs

Still your mind in me, still yourself in me, and without a doubt you shall be united with me, Lord of Love, dwelling in your heart.Bhagavad Gita

when in doubt

Just love.

why this works

Love is the very essence of the creator. Creation is an act of love. Whenever you don’t know what to do, ask ‘What would Love do?’. Connect to the undercurrent of the Universe, through love. Can’t go wrong.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM in love. I AM of love. I seek love.

The Core Within

Hear from the heart wordless mysteries!

Understand what cannot be understood!

In man’s stone-dark heart there burns a fire

That burns all veils to their root and foundation.

When the veils are burned away, the heart will understand completely…

Ancient Love will unfold ever-fresh forms

In the heart of the Spirit, in the core of the heart.Rumi

deep connection

Through the heart can one know that which is worth knowing. If we notice we’re almost always in our heads. Thinking and analyzing. Bring your attention down to the heart; now operate from there. When you converse with another, talk heart-to-heart, connect.

uncovering that which is

There’s something far more meaningful to be found when we operate from the heart. We’re able to make a soul connection. With ourselves and with others. There flows just underneath the surface, a loving intelligence, one which seeks to connect us all, let’s participate.

Daily Affirmation: I am my heart. I act in love and I connect deep.

Change Happening!

Change is the law of life.John F. Kennedy

understand the law

Notice the change that’s always in motion. The day passes, we grow older, the keys on a keyboard slowly smoothen out, the sensitivity of our senses and our own awareness of things itself is constantly in flux. So why do we want everything to stay the same [don’t want change]? And what about our desires for new things and experiences all the time [want change]?

the ‘you’ that doesn’t change

If everything’s changing, what is it that’s not changing? The constancy comes from our individuality. Even though we ourselves change and grow all the time, there’s a part of us that instills a sameness to us. Under normal circumstances, whether we awaken from sleep or regain consciousness after losing it, there’s always the ‘us’ that’s there. That’s the lens from which we view all our experiences and changes. It’s the same perspective that can help us stay in the ‘now’ moment. The more we’re in the now moment, the better prepared are we for life as it happens to us.

Affirmation: Today I will stay centered as much as possible. As change occurs I will simply notice it.

Don’t Stay Blind

If there is no meditation, then you are like a blind man in a world of great beauty, light and colour.J Krishnamurthi

what is meditation?

Meditation is different things to different people. According to Krishnamurthi meditation is when you achieve a certain quality of mind. A mind that’s virginal, without preconceptions of any kind, and one that can perceive things just as they are.

deep perception

The goal of meditation is to stay mindful and enjoy the fruits of meditation at anytime and at all times. When that happens, we gain a deep perception of life and the participants therein. When we see the rain drop falling on a solitary leaf, we hear the sound of it, we see the splash in all it’s colorful beauty and we notice the leaf shiver as it receives the perfect drop of pure water into its bosom. Our perception of the world is now at a very deep level. We aren’t blind anymore.

The Art of Creating

Silence is a receptive space.Barbara De Angelis

be still

Creation comes from silence. There’s a pause, a space between each of our thoughts. Pay attention to that space. That’s where creativity springs from. Which is why it’s important for us to be in control of our thoughts and not let them be the usual runaway kind. Be still and allow for creativity to occur!

stillness

Here’s a stillness practice. Meditation Tip #6:

  • Breathe 3 deep breaths. Each inhalation should be from the nose. Hold each breath for a few comfortable seconds Breathe out slowly through your mouth. The exhalation should take about twice as long as the inhalation.
  • Now just sit. Relax into your seat. Focus on each muscle (like on your shoulders, legs etc.) and allow them to relax.
  • Just be. And watch your thoughts. Notice how a thought might come up, like ‘Hey when I get up I must call my mom’, accept the thought, do not hop in and complete the thought, just become aware of it and let it go.
  • As you do more of the just ‘being’. You’ll become peaceful and alert. When you find yourself in a state of relaxed alertness, you’re then in the present ‘Now’ moment. Enjoy!

Where do you look?

What the superior man seeks is in himself; what the small man seeks is in others.Kung-fu-tse (Confucius)

chutzpah

We most often have the attitude that essentially we know the answer. We know what makes us happy, we know what to do with our relationships and we know how to figure things out. This is despite many of us having a low self-esteem. Why is that?

humility

Humility will work better. Be curious about life, don’t be a know-it-all. Ask questions instead. And know that you have an inner-guidance system that will guide you unerringly, if you only listen. Guided from within, with an attitude of humility stay curious about everything outside you. Your happiness is not to be found where the grass is greener.
