Get drawn by love…

Let yourself be silently drawn by the stronger pull of what you really love.Rumi

Listen First

As your internal (thought created) chatter dies down you can more easily connect with the under-current of Life itself. This can be best achieved via some form of meditation; and staying in the moment as much as is practical and possible.

Then Notice

Notice the thoughts that pop into your head through-out the day, especially when you practice stillness. All the higher thoughts, ones that are filled with love and creative ideas are the ones to focus on! Journal these thoughts, they then become a deeper part of you, which is the idea!

Flow or Take Off?

Buddhism holds that everything is in constant flux. Thus the question is whether we are to accept change passively and be swept away by it or whether we are to take the lead and create positive changes on our own initiative.Daisaku Ikeda

Create Positive Change

I like Dr. Ikeda’s suggestion! Take the bull by the horns; face the truth; find your place in the world and effect positive change! We are creative beings that can only thrive when we act and create, let’s not forget that!

Flow With Life

Buddhism also teaches that you should flow with life. Accept all that happens; stay calm and unaffected. How do you balance these two seemingly opposing views? By leading a balanced life! Acting is about doing and being is about flowing with life. Check out the BeDo Continuum for more on this! Buddhism teaches us to live a balanced life, which we must if we’re to be fulfilled.

Master of the Universe

Happy is the man who has learned the cause of things and has put under his feet all fear, inexorable fate, and the noisy strife of the hell of greed.Virgil

The Cause of Things

The cause of things flows primarily from 2 sources:

  1. The Universal Mind: The universal creative force that has set certain laws in motion that enable life as we experience it. If we go against the current of this mighty river we suffer. We must learn to flow with it.
  2. The Human Mind: The human mind is the co-creator. We create our life via our intentions, thoughts, actions and interactions. We must understand how this works or we suffer.

Master of the Universe

Once we understand causes and that life is constant change; know how to defeat fear and are happy with the present moment in all its glory, we are then the master of our own universe. In effect the master of the Universe!

Ponder that.

Freedom from the Known

Exhale, inhale, repeat….

Our breath is the bridge from our body to our mind.Thich Nhat Hanh

Become more self-aware:

If all you did is watch and become aware of your breathing, one or more times daily then you’d be on your way to a more self-aware you! Find ways to remind yourself to do that, you’ll be very happy you did.

Key to peace:

You’ll calm down when you do that; realize what’s going on in your mind and body; and will be better able to leverage the power and peace that reside within you!

Mindful breathing is the key to peace and provides the hook that will keep you grounded.

Seize the moment

When you do nothing you’re doing something.Linda Kaplan Thaler & Robin Koval

When you sit on your tush and do nothing, you’re sitting and doing nothing. That’s the choice you’re making at that moment. It might be good for you, because let’s say you’re such a doer that you need to just sit! Or it may not be so good for you because in this case you might be a perennial procrastinator! And because you sat on your butt; you missed out on a golden opportunity!

Be awake, seize the moment, take that small action, dot that last i.

I recommend Linda’s book (below) because it highlights the power of undertaking small actions which can lead to some big results! In particular it’s Truth #4 in her book!

Do you use a hammer?

If you only have a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail.Abraham Harold Maslow

How often do we use a hammer; to solve just about every problem?

We do this by:

  • Being set in our own ways
  • By only looking at people and issues with past-colored glasses
  • By thinking we already know the answer
  • By thinking of a response when another is still talking
  • By not sitting and just being, trying to jump in to fix a situation or problem
  • Through our habitual thinking patterns

When will we snap out of this hypnotic way of being?

When we do then the sunlight appears more alive, the air more fragrant, feel what the other person is truly feeling and connect with that which is.
