Living a quality day…

A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Goethe said this and what he refers to is living a life of quality. A life of quality is one in which we appreciate Beauty in thought and form. It’s a life where we acknowledge and accept Truth in any form that we behold it. And it’s a life where Goodness in action and being is considered the only way to live.

Attention to Truth, Beauty & Goodness can help sculpt a life well lived, a life that’s fulfilling at the deepest level, one that is full of Love and its expression.

Do nothing!

It is because artists do not practice, patrons do not patronize, crowds do not assemble to worship reverently the great work of Doing Nothing, that the world has lost its philosophy and even failed to create a new religion.G. K. Chesterton

For how long can you sit still and do nothing? What part of you is it that doesn’t allow that? What do you lose if you’re unable to just be?

It pays to nourish this ability. Just take it easy, relax and literally do nothing.

One way to make this a habit is to make meditation or stillness a habit. Here’s another Stillness Tip.

Meditation Tip #4:

Relax into a chair and settle in. Next focus on each major muscle group in your body, from your facial muscles, to the shoulder ones, then lower and upper back. Focus on your stomach, behind, legs and calves as well. Ensure that each muscle area is relaxed and not tense.

Next close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths. The breaths should be long drawn (through your nose), held for a few seconds and then exhaled (via pinched lips) slowly. This relaxes your body and starts to relax your mind.

Where is your attention now?

Likely it’s inside your head. Consciously bring your attention to where your heart is and stay there. Notice how you might lose track and get lost in a thought. Notice this too; then bring your attention back to the heart.

Stay here for at least 5 minutes. Repeat twice more daily, for maximum benefit.

How you think matters…

There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.William Shakespeare

A big root of all unhappiness and dissatisfaction with life is our judgmental way of looking at ourselves, others and the world around us. Which is why it pays to watch our thoughts as much as possible.

Most times we lose ourselves in our thoughts. We become our thoughts. An off-shoot of this situation is that we feel irritated when others intrude while we’re lost in our own chain of thoughts.

Become aware of the fact that you are having the thoughts, you are not your thoughts. The latter is what we experience mostly.

As soon as you separate your conscious, witnessing mind from the constant chatter, you are able to tune into a timeless wisdom and peace. This experience expands in proportion to the time you spend in such moments, called Now.

Extinguish fear with love…

Fear is a darkroom where negatives developUsman B. Asif

Our biggest inhibitor is fear. When fear is present love cannot exist. When love doesn’t exist our connection to ‘that which underlies all’ cannot exist. That creates a vicious cycle. The more we fear or focus on fear, the more fearful we become. Instead focus on creating the virtuous cycle of love, here’s how it begins.

It begins with our attitude toward ourselves and the world. We must accept ourselves; in other words love our selves. That allows us to have a positive outlook toward other people, the world and even God. In turn positive energy and circumstances begin to flow into our life experience. That builds and sustains the ‘lovely’ cycle.

Love instead, when fear tries to take a hold of you!

The Here and Now…

Listen to the Exhortation of the Dawn!
Look to this Day!
For it is Life, the very Life of Life.
In its brief course lie all the
Verities and Realities of your Existence.
The Bliss of Growth,
The Glory of Action,
The Splendor of Beauty;
For Yesterday is but a Dream,
And To-morrow is only a Vision;
But To-day well lived makes
Every Yesterday a Dream of Happiness,
And every Tomorrow a Vision of Hope.
Look well therefore to this Day!
Such is the Salutation of the Dawn!

Kalidasa

This is it, today and now is all we have! We live our entire life, our existence, our dreams and sorrows; all during today.

We often spend time regretting the past or reliving it. We also spend time worrying about the future. While it’s good to learn from past mistakes and even better to plan ahead, lets not miss out on the priceless opportunities that ‘Now’ has to offer. The ever present and eternal Now is where reality intersects with consciousness, which is the real YOU.

Opportunities abound!

I held a moment in my hand, brilliant as a star, fragile as a flower, a tiny sliver of one hour. I dropped it carelessly, Ah! I didn’t know I held opportunity.Hazel Lee

Opportunity abounds. We just need to know how to look and pay attention. What’s opportunity?

  • Opportunity to just enjoy what we already possess, in mind, body and spirit.
  • Opportunity to grow in all possible ways, including intellectually and emotionally, especially towards ultimate pursuits.
  • Opportunity to build and mend relationships.
  • Opportunity to be all that you can be, and do!

Treasure and enjoy all the moments you live and breathe, life is good!

Expand your horizons with faith…

Belief is always limiting and binding; faith is expanding and releasing. Belief fixates, faith liberates. The Urantia Papers

Watch it when you espouse any belief about your self, your religion, others or about life itself. Belief is limiting because it ties you down. Whatever understanding you have about your capabilities, holds true.

Instead of accumulating beliefs, try the expansive nature of faith instead. Have faith in yourself, in others and in God/Universe.

Know that you can do and be more than you are right now. Don’t limit your growth. Allow the same in others, let them be what they can be, don’t stifle them.

Truly ‘belief fixates, faith liberates’! Employ faith and fly!
