Our life is frittered away by detail… Simplify, simplify, simplify! … Simplicity of life and elevation of purpose. – Henry David Thoreau
focus on detail robs energy
Our life is mostly spent on trivia, a lot of detail and not much on the essence of being. Take our daily work life as an example. We’re mostly concerned with getting through the week and getting our job done. We don’t stop to observe and to ruminate. The less we draw energy from the well inside us; the more we give away energy to the distractions without.
fortify with simplicity instead
Thoreau asks us to focus on the core. Simplify first and then dwell on the purpose of things and of beings.
- Make life simpler.
- Live in the moment.
- Have fewer things.
- Have fewer things to do.
Rediscover life by searching for the meaning, the motive and the intelligence behind all that we see happening around us and within us.
