Do To Others, Do Unto Yourself

He that does good to another does good also to himself.Seneca

the fallacy

We sometimes live a fallacy that when we have a tiff with someone it’s ok to not make up and just break the chord. Actually not making up and clearing the air hurts us more. The resentment and the negativity does quite a number on us, physically, mentally and spiritually.

right action

The reverse is true of course. Any good that we do, to others, we do to ourselves. How you might ask? It’s in the vibrations we create, we generate positive vibrations when we do good, the same vibrations affect us too.

Daily Affirmation: Today I am good. In my goodness, I create positivity that impacts one and all.

Right Action

There is no power greater than right action in the present moment.Yoga Vasistha

right action

What is it? That which is optimum for right now, given all circumstances and antecedents. That which will produce the greatest good for you and all concerned.

present moment

Is the culmination of all that has occurred in the past and is the launching pad for what is yet to come. It’s right now, the most powerful moment of time there is. If we execute the right action in the current moment, only good things can come from it.

Daily Affirmation: I am present. I’m connected to the source of all good. I will act and do what’s right.

Do Your Own Thing

Listen to everything, forget much, correct little.Pope John XXIII

ears open

Daily life offers many treasures that we sometimes, actually often, overlook. We ignore beauty that surrounds us, we often fail to pay full attention to the person talking to us and we even ignore opportunities that come our way in the guise of trouble. Let’s keep our outlook broad and mind open, daily.

do your own thing

It’s your life, it’s the signature you decide to (de)sign on the fabric of life, don’t give up on this precious gift. We should take in all the feedback from the outside world, we should weigh it with what makes sense to our deep self, and we should do what we think is right. Here’s a test to judge what’s right. The path with more love in it, is the way.

Daily Affirmation: I am open to life fully today. I act in love.

Soul Motive

Do not take thought for your persons or your properties, but first and chiefly to care about the greatest improvement of the soul. I tell you that the virtue is not given by money, but that from virtue come money and every other good of man, public as well as private… Socrates

seek ye first the kingdom of god

Our first order of business is to tend to our soul. That which is most precious within us. We must seek virtue, truth, goodness, beauty and all that’s worth seeking. Often we have it the other way around. What do you seek?

then all that’s necessary will be given

I love the story that my wife often relates to others. A guy dies and convinces the heaven’s gatekeeper to let him carry in all the gold he’s collected over a lifetime. The gatekeeper can’t understand why this guy wants to do so. Once in, this guy is shocked to see that even the pavement in heaven is made with gold. All his life’s work really amounted to naught. Let’s make sure we don’t make the same mistake. Let’s focus on that which will have value beyond the grave. And that includes relationships at the forefront along with Truth, Beauty and Goodness.

Daily Affirmation: I am soul. Today I focus on that which is most meaningful.

Leap And Grow…

All growth is a leap in the dark, a spontaneous unpremeditated act without benefit of experience.Henry Miller

real growth

Is only possible when we leap off the cliff in this fashion. We do grow incrementally as well, however the growth achieved by just jumping off is more exhilarating and gratifying. I relate to this quote; I just joined a new job and feel that I won’t get anywhere without jumping right in, without fear.

banish fear

Fear is the enemy to banish first. Next listen in on the small talk inside your head. What messages are you constantly programming into yourself? Watch the negative ones, replace them with something more fitting your amazing personality.

Daily Affirmation: I am capable. I fear not, I grow by leaping, knowing that I am safe.

Expectations & Assumptions

Assumptions are the termites of relationships.  – Henry Winkler

our experience wells

We’re born into families, cultures and stories; through them we shape our lives which include our fears, assumptions and expectations about everything and everyone. I call these our ‘experience wells’. The benefit of staying in these wells that we’ve created is safety and familiarity. If we have to grow, get along with others and break away just as butterflies do from their cocoons, we must be able to climb out of our wells.

breaking away

First recognize that everyone else lives in their own experience well. For your own peace and sanity you must come out of your well, see the world and reality for what it is, and not from the circumscribed view from inside your well. For a relationship to be healthy, all involved must come out of their respective wells and be able to embrace each other in love and forgiveness.

Daily Affirmation: I am embracing truth. My focus is on forgiving and on appreciating the beauty that lies within all.
