What’s Deeper?

For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited.  – C.S. Lewis

desires

Many of our desires are good. They’re good because they uncover in us the longing that leads to the very source of all such desires. The desire itself might be for a material object, say a digital camera. The question to ask though is, what’s it about a camera that really intrigues us? Is it a desire to know others in a deep way? Is it the need to appreciate beauty around us? Or is it to catalog precious memories that make life worthwhile? What’s even deeper than that?

go deeper

By asking such questions we can understand better what will satisfy us deep inside. It won’t be the camera (‘they are not the thing itself’) it’ll be what the camera evokes inside us, it’ll also be the experiences that the camera enables in our lives and it’ll be the meaning that we discover. What joy are we seeking in life? Is it the intermediate form or is it that which is deeper and truer?

How To Practice Wonder!

The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.  – W.B. Yeats

dull eyes

Are our eyes dulled and dead to the magic out there? Are we hypnotized to the magic within? Are we essentially not living? The unfortunate answer is ‘Yes’…

open them

To come alive we must open our eyes wide. We must get out of our heads and walk with your hearts wide open. We can then recognize the beauty and magic that surrounds us. We’ll see the multiple shades of green in the grass and the trees, we’ll see the wild colors that spring springs upon us and we’ll become aware of the loving peace that dwells deep within us…

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM keeping my eyes open in wonder!

How To Be More Creative…

The thoughts that come often unsought, and, as it were, drop into the mind, are commonly the most valuable of any we have.  – John Locke

pop in

There are indeed thoughts that just ‘drop’ into our minds. The valuable ones are of the kind that help us find direction, provide positive motivation, ask us to connect with someone, remind us of an important chore or reveal that idea we were searching for!

source

Where do you think these thoughts come from? I have my own theory; however the way to increase the prevalence of these thoughts, is to have a still mind through out the day. A still mind is possible when we witness all happenings and catch ourselves from being caught in the usual maelstrom that is our thoughts!

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM still so that I can receive valuable thoughts…

How To Play!

The world is but a canvas to the imagination.  – Henry David Thoreau

play!

So is our life, a canvas. As is everyone else’s life. And the experiences created by the population of a country and the entire world. Think about the responsibility we own; responsibility for our own life, responsibility for and in partnership with family and towards the rest of the planet. As we think, as we imagine, as we design and execute, so we reap. Some of our small and inconsequential thoughts may result in the most amazing consequences. And some of our grandest ambitions might be for naught.

fearful?

There is nothing to fear though; all is well as we play and enjoy this life that we’ve been given. The whole world is a playground, a canvas indeed! Let’s go out, play and splash some color around!

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM playing without fear!

Using A Hammer?

If you only have a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail.  – Abraham Harold Maslow

hammer?

How often do we use a hammer to solve just about every problem?

We do this by:

  • Being set in our own ways
  • By only looking at people and issues with past-colored glasses
  • By thinking we already know the answer
  • By thinking of a response when another is still talking
  • By not sitting and just being, trying to jump in to fix a situation or problem
  • Through our habitual thinking patterns

hypnotized

When will we snap out of this hypnotic way of being? When we do then the sunlight appears more alive, the air more fragrant; we connect with the other person and Life itself at a deeper level.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM awake and alive!

Why We Must ‘Act’!

You are quite capable of reacting in a happy and healthy manner to everything that happens to you.Vernon Howard

react

We are creatures of habit, so we almost always react to most life situations. Especially as they relate to folks near and dear to us. Why is that?

act!

It’s funny, if we breakdown the word re-act, it connotes a meaning quite opposite of how it’s used [a thought-provoking sidebar]! Let’s act while being fully present and conscious of what we’re doing. That way we’ll design a far superior outcome than the most likely one!

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM designing life events!

How To Simply Life

Live from moment to moment, just as if every new moment is all  there is. For that, in truth, is all there is.  – Vernon Howard

all there is

Is this moment. Let’s breathe easy and relax into it. Experience it fully. It’s everything, now.

peace

Peace and creativity result from being fully present in the moment. We’re free from the past and the future. Life is good. We can deal with life as it happens. Everything real is eternally safe. We are real. We’re God’s children.

Daily Affirmation: Today I just AM.
