Learning From The Unpleasant

I have learnt silence from the talkative, toleration from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind; yet strange, I am ungrateful to these teachers.Kahlil Gibran

our perspective

Same here, I’m too am ungrateful for these learning opportunities and great teachers who pop in appropriately into our lives! What keeps us from having the right perspective?

defending the ego

It’s because we’re always in defensive mode. We want to convince others of our wisdom and smartness. We can’t stand not being right. If someone is being unkind or intolerant, they must be wrong.

The Universe and Life are not against us. This is a grand drama with amazing purposes, quite unknown to us, that’s being played out. It doesn’t serve us to have the wrong attitude. We ought to be humble and learn from what Life arranges for us!

Reacting To Negativity

From the backstabbing co-worker to the meddling sister-in-law, you are in charge of how you react to the people and events in your life. You can either give negativity power over your life or you can choose happiness instead. Take control and choose to focus on what is important in your life.Anais Nin

stuff happens

Negativity abounds, sometimes we feel that untoward incidents are becoming a norm in our lives. What’s the best way to react? How can we be in control instead of letting incidents control us?

create instead

The very act of pausing, thinking twice and then choosing a higher response is creativity in action! When you pause, pray for guidance and direction. You have the power to design your response, exercise this prerogative!

Where do you look?

What the superior man seeks is in himself; what the small man seeks is in others.Kung-fu-tse (Confucius)

chutzpah

We most often have the attitude that essentially we know the answer. We know what makes us happy, we know what to do with our relationships and we know how to figure things out. This is despite many of us having a low self-esteem. Why is that?

humility

Humility will work better. Be curious about life, don’t be a know-it-all. Ask questions instead. And know that you have an inner-guidance system that will guide you unerringly, if you only listen. Guided from within, with an attitude of humility stay curious about everything outside you. Your happiness is not to be found where the grass is greener.

The Power Of Curiosity

The world is round and the place which may seem like the end may also be the beginning.Ivy Baker Priest

expand your awareness

Why are we so one dimensional? We tend to see the world primarily through the narrow vision of our own being and experiences…

How does this limit us when…

  • Learning new ideas?
  • Relating with people?
  • Or understanding the world?

borrow someone’s shoes

How is it to think like another, see life like they do, interpret life like they would? What happens when we get into someone else’s shoes? I know I’m asking a lot of questions in this blog, but that’s the idea!

The Next Step?

The fool wonders, the wise man asks.Benjamin Disraeli

ask first

We often ask ourselves; what should I do next? That’s a great step forward, we must ask first. What then? Often we keep asking and nothing seems to happen? What’s going on?

then observe

Nothing seems to happen because we’re expecting a certain answer! And we only look for that particular answer and glaze over everything else.

We need to be free of any expectations, and once we’re free, just look!

Look for signs from the Universe. They come to us in an infinite variety of ways, through people, situations, inanimate objects, you name it. Observation is key.

now act

Once you observe something that appears to be a sign. Take the action that’s called for. If you do; more signs will appear, they always do. You’re now actively on your journey of self and Universe discovery!!

What’s Your Opinion?

Don’t seek reality, just put an end to opinions.Sheng-ts’an (Zen Monk)

what do you seek?

And how do you go about it?

stop separating

Notice how you think. You often examine one object, situation or person then compare it with something else. This constant comparison is a major cause of the constant chatter in our minds.

Recognize that, find peace.

Simplify!

Our life is frittered away by detail… Simplify, simplify, simplify! … Simplicity of life and elevation of purpose.Henry David Thoreau

focus on detail robs energy

Our life is mostly spent on trivia, a lot of detail and not much on the essence of being. Take our daily work life as an example. We’re mostly concerned with getting through the week and getting our job done. We don’t stop to observe and to ruminate. The less we draw energy from the well inside us; the more we give away energy to the distractions without.

fortify with simplicity instead

Thoreau asks us to focus on the core. Simplify first and then dwell on the purpose of things and of beings.

  • Make life simpler.
  • Live in the moment.
  • Have fewer things.
  • Have fewer things to do.

Rediscover life by searching for the meaning, the motive and the intelligence behind all that we see happening around us and within us.
