Proof That God Listens?

I am in the heart of all.  – The Bhagavad Gita

alone and afraid

I was 20 and it was the summer of 1985. I was still fairly new to this amazing country, The United States of America, when I found myself at Basic Training for the U.S. Army at Ft. Dix in NJ. Being new and with no friends I felt very lonely and a bit afraid on my first day in the barracks. That despite being with recruits from practically every state and Puerto Rico. It would eventually turn out to be a most transformative life experience to go through hard training with a great bunch of American kids…

prayer answered

But for now I was alone. I prayed for help and asked God to comfort me. I was already a voracious reader of spiritual texts and God knew that. But I had no book with me. In the evening when I got back to my barrack right there near my bed, in a trash can (!), lay the book I’ve recommended below. I know not where it came from but surely it was meant for me. I knew then that God is real.

Why Stillness Matters…

When you lose touch with your inner stillness, you lose touch with yourself.  – Eckhart Tolle

stillness

A calm interior. A self-assuredness. A steady faith. A clear mind. A playfulness. An optimistic perspective. A joyous knowing. These are some of the fruits of stillness.

how?

Through meditation and increasing self-awareness. Meditation reduces the internal thought-storm. Self-awareness shows us how we use our thoughts and when we don’t need them. Meditation and self-awareness go hand-in-hand. During meditation we deepen our awareness. Whenever we deepen our awareness we’re meditating.

How To Be Master Of Self!

Your awareness of yourself is greater than yourself.Guy Finley

self

Self is where we live, amidst our thoughts about us and alongside opinions of everyone and everything! We live in a maelstrom of ideas, fears, dreams and concepts. We muddle through life never entering the eye of the self-created storm.

awareness

Just becoming aware of self and our thoughts buys us a great vantage point. Suddenly we see our whole conscious self. That seeing allows us a perspective that’s not available otherwise.

Becoming self-aware is the first step towards self-mastery…

Why We Must Be Still…

We yearn for a moment’s peace and quiet, only to turn on the radio, make a phone call, or run an errand as soon as an opportunity for solitude presents itself.Ronnie Polaneczky

constant movement

We fill our life with motion. Incessantly. Why?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ponder
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We’re running away from self. We do need action in life, just not constant action. At some level we’re afraid of facing our apparently lonely self. We feel more alive when we’re moving. Life is movement. When we’re still and without interaction we fear our mortality

breathe instead

Let’s take pause and focus on our breathing. Slowly we’ll find ourselves calming down. The mind will want to race, let it, don’t attach attention to it or to its production, which are thoughts.

Once we start getting used to being still, at rest, a peace will start to descend, actually emerge from within. Then we will know that we’ve never been alone.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM still and know I AM not alone…

How To Find More Meaning In Life!

The more meaning we find in life, the more meaning we find in life…  – NamasteNow!

true happiness

True happiness is a product of finding enduring meaning in life. Meaning can certainly evolve and grow, but meaning we must have if we are to be happy campers on this planet! What is it that truly drives us? Are we being truthful when we say it’s the nice things like ‘family’, ‘relationships’, ‘fun’ etc.? Discovering what drives us will lead us to uncover meaning in our lives.

find meaning

We must spend time ruminating and acting on what drives us. An example is discovering that to be happy in a job we must work with like-minded individuals. Once we figure that out we ought to seek job opportunities that allow us to do just that. Once we start becoming happier at our jobs we are more likely to discover greater meaning in other aspects of life. One feeds the other, find meaning in one aspect of life spurs finding meaning in the rest of our lives! Let’s go seek more meaning!

The Real Reason Why Meditating Is Important!

Worship is a personal communion with that which is divinely real, with that which is the very source of reality.  – The Urantia Papers

god speaks

God speaks to us. If we but listen he has a lot to share with us. He longs for our attention. He wants to collaborate with us. He wants to guide us. He’s seeking a partnership. Do we believe that? Will we show up?

stillness

If he speaks then how come we can’t hear him? Why is it so difficult to connect with God? We must practice stillness. If we can spend daily time becoming receptive to God then his voice will find its way to us. Are we willing to devote our attention to such a worthwhile effort?

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM a worshipper!
