Daily Adventure

Adventure isn’t hanging on a rope off the side of a mountain. Adventure is an attitude that we must apply…John Amatt

always seeking adventure

We’re born seeking adventure. Adventure springs from our curious nature. We’re curious as babies because we want to poke our fingers into everything. Slowly we tend to lose our innocent curiosity and our spirit of adventure transforms itself into the desire to acquire. We want to acquire new things, relationships and experiences because we seek that which is new or that which is different, what we seek is adventure.

an adventure POV (point-of-view)

How can we stay interested in daily life? It can only be done if we view each day, our normally mundane day, as a brand new one! That’s when our ‘adventure POV’ can kick in, and we can enjoy life fully. We seek adventure, keep that in mind, as you pursue your day. How does your attitude, your way of looking, help you embrace adventure?

Daily Affirmation: I am adventure. Today I see life creatively, I enjoy every moment.

Self Observation

Self-observation is an instrument of self-change, a means of awakening.George Gurdjieff

hypnotic state

Our lives are lived in a state that’s best described as hypnotic. Often we don’t catch a breath in our daily super busy lives. We’re not aware of where the day went, what we set out to do, what we noticed along the way if anything. There’s not likely to be a moment when we sat down and reflected on what’s going on, no chance we actually smelt a rose!

catch and hold your breath

Catching a breath is actually a great place to begin. Find times during the day when you can breathe deeply for a couple of minutes. Even hold your breath for a bit and let all the oxygen be absorbed into your lungs. Now look around, notice where you are, what you set out to do and collect your thoughts. What kind of thoughts are you creating?

Daily Affirmation: Today I am aware of my body, actions, thoughts and purpose.

Love?

Love doesn’t make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile. Franklin P. Jones

from where?

What does it mean to have love in your life? Love can come from near relatives including a life partner, it can come from other relatives and dear friends including pets, it surely comes from parents, it can come from non-physical sources such as God and even from deep inside you. Love is also ignitable via things (including nature) that are beautiful.

manifestation

To know what love is, one must practice it, feel it and give it away every day. If you don’t do that daily then something vital will be missing that day. Don’t let that happen to you. Experience it daily.

Daily Affirmation: I am love. I will be love, today.

Soul Motive

Do not take thought for your persons or your properties, but first and chiefly to care about the greatest improvement of the soul. I tell you that the virtue is not given by money, but that from virtue come money and every other good of man, public as well as private… Socrates

seek ye first the kingdom of god

Our first order of business is to tend to our soul. That which is most precious within us. We must seek virtue, truth, goodness, beauty and all that’s worth seeking. Often we have it the other way around. What do you seek?

then all that’s necessary will be given

I love the story that my wife often relates to others. A guy dies and convinces the heaven’s gatekeeper to let him carry in all the gold he’s collected over a lifetime. The gatekeeper can’t understand why this guy wants to do so. Once in, this guy is shocked to see that even the pavement in heaven is made with gold. All his life’s work really amounted to naught. Let’s make sure we don’t make the same mistake. Let’s focus on that which will have value beyond the grave. And that includes relationships at the forefront along with Truth, Beauty and Goodness.

Daily Affirmation: I am soul. Today I focus on that which is most meaningful.

Expectations & Assumptions

Assumptions are the termites of relationships.  – Henry Winkler

our experience wells

We’re born into families, cultures and stories; through them we shape our lives which include our fears, assumptions and expectations about everything and everyone. I call these our ‘experience wells’. The benefit of staying in these wells that we’ve created is safety and familiarity. If we have to grow, get along with others and break away just as butterflies do from their cocoons, we must be able to climb out of our wells.

breaking away

First recognize that everyone else lives in their own experience well. For your own peace and sanity you must come out of your well, see the world and reality for what it is, and not from the circumscribed view from inside your well. For a relationship to be healthy, all involved must come out of their respective wells and be able to embrace each other in love and forgiveness.

Daily Affirmation: I am embracing truth. My focus is on forgiving and on appreciating the beauty that lies within all.

True To Self… (Next quote on Monday April 5th!)

This above all: to thine own self be true.Polonius, Hamlet, William Shakespeare

mother of all quotes!

This is indeed the grand daddy of all quotes. It succinctly encapsulates all that we, as humans, need as a reminder, and as direction in our lives.

what it means

To me the quote means that we must grow to truly understand ourselves. Not just our superficial self, its selfishness and its shallowness. But also our deeper self, our value to the Universe and to each other. With this increasing self-knowledge we’ll know what to do for our own happiness without trampling over others’ needs. When true to our deep self, we can only bring happiness to others around us.

Daily Affirmation: Today I am true to myself. I’m being responsible for my own deep needs while being of service to others.
