Clean but the mirror and the message shines forth. – A Course in Miracles (ACIM)
We are born a tabula rasa in my opinion. It takes time and good nutrition to grow healthy bodies; the same principle applies to our minds. Our minds do get disciplined to varying degrees because of schooling and life itself, but we must enforce greater discipline.
We may discipline our mind to become its true master. Without mastering our minds we’re often at its disposal and therefore often:
- We’re only happy when things work the way we expect them to
- Other people control our mental well-being
- We allow mental addictions to form
- We’re at the whim of life itself
Stillness, concentration, breathing, mantra chanting and mindfulness are some of the ways we can be more disciplined thinkers.
