How To Find Harmony

6.14 With soul in peace, and all fear gone, and strong in the vow of holiness, let him rest with mind in harmony, his soul on me, his God supreme.

6.15 The Yogi who, lord of his mind, ever prays in this harmony of soul, attains the peace of Nirvana, the peace supreme that is in me.…

6.16 Yoga is a harmony. Not for him who eats too much, or for him who eats too little; not for him who sleeps too little, or for him who sleeps too much. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 6)

balance

Only through living a balanced life can we achieve a mind in harmony which in turn leads to peace. Freedom from fear and peace are prerequisites to attaining closeness to and consciousness of God.

nirvana

If God is the author of this Universe and if there’s always a better way of doing or achieving something then seeking God’s input into our life must be a prime objective of life. When we can consistently dwell on, pray or talk to, God, we build the equanimity and peace that ensues from such a relationship. That’s Nirvana in daily life.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM in balance.

How We Bloom…

No creature is fully itself till it is, like the dandelion, opened in the bloom of pure relationship to the sun, the entire living cosmos.D.H. Lawrence

to what end?

Yes we are the creation. We live in the midst of the most ambitious and grand undertaking in time and space. We’re part of an unrelenting march of life through this almost limitless universe that houses all space and all time. What is our place in this creation? What are we doing here? Why? To what end? Where are we headed? Who are we?

the creator

Many indicators suggest that this creation in which we all dwell and have our being is the handiwork of a master creator. This creator participates personally in her creation and cares for all happenings big and small. He cares for people and relationships because apparently love is the currency of this universe and increasing this love is a purpose of it all. Let’s ponder that!

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM aware of and reach for the Creator Sun!

What’s Your Religion?

God has no religion.  – Gandhi

god’s religion

What’s god’s religion? God as defined is the creator. He’s also in many ways, far beyond our comprehension. Intellectually we’re probably like amoebas to him. If God is love then as his creation he must view us with overwhelming love. If God is love then certainly that’s the universal currency. Love is the answer.

our religion

My definition of religion goes like this: It’s that which helps us approach reality. Reality about our origin, our existence and our purpose. Love makes the world go around and must be the basis for any religion, personal or institutional. If our religion isn’t growing love and forgiveness within us, we must become alert to what will.

Daily Affirmation: Today I move in love and forgiveness for all.

Are We Friendly To Us?

6.8 The soul of man is his friend when by the Spirit he has conquered his soul; but when a man is not lord of his soul then this becomes his own enemy. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 6)

enemy

When we’re not in partnership with ‘Spirit’ and actively elevating our being, we could be our own worst enemies. That’s because we simply don’t know what’s best for us. We flounder about and often make poor decisions. We’re not happy.

friend

When we move with ‘Spirit’ while seeking direction for our lives, we’re effectively in partnership with God. A partnership like this can never fail. Even if the world sees us as a failure, we’re on the right track and thrive from a spiritual perspective.

Daily Affirmation: Today I befriend God.

Why Our Thoughts Matter

There are no idle thoughts.  – A Course In Miracles

thoughts are powerful

Thoughts initiate. Thoughts create. Thoughts perpetuate. We’re constantly thinking and therefore initiating, creating and perpetuating. What thoughts or thought patterns do we dwell on?

love or fear?

Each thought or thought pattern leads us either into fear or to an experience of love. The two emotions cannot coexist. ‘Today I must buy that present for my friend’ could be a thought we think. If it’s something we’re afraid we might forget to do or we’re doing it because we want our friend to like us, then essentially this thought creates fear in us. Instead if we’re imagining what the effect of that present will be on our relationship and how we might enjoy buying and presenting that gift then this thought leads to more love. No thought is idle, we choose and design at every juncture.

Daily Affirmation: Today I move towards love by becoming love.

Why God’s Will?

6.2… and no man can be a Yogi who surrenders not his earthly will. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 6)

who’s a yogi?

The word Yoga can be literally translated from the original Sanskrit to mean ‘unite’ or ‘union’. Union with ultimate reality is the goal of any practitioner (yogi) of yoga! The Bhagavad Gita makes it plenty clear that ultimate reality is God as a person.

my will

Our ‘earthly will’ is just that, very circumscribed, selfish and short-term oriented. We cannot know how our selfish actions will impact the greater good of creation. Therefore it becomes spiritually important that we fine tune our will to be inspired by God’s. Without doubt God’s Will always proceeds from love, understanding, truth, beauty and goodness. We cannot go wrong if we access the divine will and execute on it. That is actually the ultimate adventure!

Daily Affirmation: Today I seek God’s will for me.

Permanent Teeth!

Everything flows and nothing abides, everything gives way and nothing stays fixed.Heraclitus

lost teeth

Our family experiences a lot of joy daily because of all the photo memories that flash across the computer screen that sits in our kitchen. Yesterday I noticed a cute photo of our son with his front teeth intact. Last year he had landed on his face and lost several ‘milk teeth’. The photo got me thinking. I realized how once he had all his teeth intact, then a few disappeared and now he’s starting to grow his ‘permanent’ teeth in place! And such is life. Everything we see is in a state of flux, everything we see shall not last. So what does?

eternal life

Only the essence, the real, the spiritual, the soul, survives. I also believe that our individual soul survives into eternity to enjoy endless growth and adventure. If the soul survives then so do our relationships with other souls. Relationships can only be built in love, therefore love is the true currency of the Universe. The main product that this love produces, for an eternity, is our relationships…
