The Three Minds And A Habit!

God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it’s me. – Change Quotes

the 3 minds

There’s the rational mind, the emotional mind and in this categorization the higher or spiritual mind. Unless all 3 are involved in our change efforts, change or success will be hard to reach.

  • Rational Mind: It must make logical sense for us to pursue a change goal. It could be better health that draws us towards an exercise goal and we then see how it can benefit us in the long run.
  • Emotional Mind: We must be passionate about the change we want to see in our lives. Without such emotional involvement the goal won’t mean much, but if we have meaning attached to our purpose then very little stands between us and our goals!
  • Higher Mind: We must have a higher purpose. Without a lofty goal that takes us beyond our routine life, change will be hard. If our change goal is tied to our ‘Life Purpose’ then movement towards such a goal will be swift!

Success is guaranteed when the 3 minds work in tandem towards a goal that unifies our entire personality, our logical mind, our emotions and our highest leanings!

the personal success rhythm

As we embark on a change journey we need a rhythm, a  personal success habit. The tips given in a previous change blog, Making Time For The Important Stuff can be used to to create such a daily success rhythm. Once we have that rhythm going, success will become just another habit. It’s an established fact that any habit takes about 4 weeks to become one. Let’s attempt to do daily that for which we want to create new neuron pathways! Can we make a pledge today to establish such a rhythm?

What’s The Best Meditation?

12.12 For concentration is better than mere practice, and meditation is better than concentration; but higher than meditation is surrender in love of the fruit of one’s actions, for on surrender follows peace. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 12)

meditation

There are a myriad different techniques that fall under the umbrella of meditation, here are some that I share on NamasteNow. In general meditation techniques range from concentration to chanting to reflection and so on. Any practice that softens us, helps us become more open minded, become more tolerant, forgiving, grateful and loving is good!

surrender in love…

According to this holy book of the Hindus, surrendering all action to God and in love is the way to peace and happiness. When we’re at peace, we can more easily enjoy the inspiration and love that rain down on us from all directions. Only when our desires and the constant mind chatter peter down can we hope to tap into this ever-present Universal resource…. Lets practice!

Daily Affirmation: Today I lovingly surrender!

The Zen Of Enlightenment

Zen opens a man’s eyes to the greatest mystery as it is daily and hourly performed; it enlarges the heart to embrace eternity of time and infinity of space in its every palpitation; it makes us live in the world as if walking in the garden of Eden. D.T. Suzuki

zen –> awareness

The word Zen (Japanese) comes from the Chinese Chán which is derived from the Indian word dhyāna. Constant meditation, or paying full attention to all that we do and to all that we are, is the essence of Zen practice. Mind-fullness leads to greater awareness of self and our surroundings.

awareness –> enlightenment

Increasing awareness in turn leads to true understanding. When we understand things to be as they are, we start to see, we start living in wisdom. In such a state we’re joyous, enjoy a keen intellect, love life, get along with most folks and cannot be disappointed or saddened for too long.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM joyous and wise.

I AM Because I AM…

10.39 … I am the seed of all things that are; and that no being that moves or moves not can ever be without me.

10.42 Know that with one single fraction of my Being I pervade and support the Universe, and know that I AM.The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 10)

no place to go

No place to go where God isn’t; no thought to think without the I AM experiencing it, nothing to do without God. We live in the very substance of God. Truly have we nothing to worry about, we come from God, we live and have our being in him and we’re headed towards an increasing realization of All That Is…

i am

I AM is the original postulate. God just is. He lives and inhabits the present moment, completely, and he encompasses all time and space. We can identify with him and know his nature, if we but choose to do so. He waits patiently, all-the-while surrounding us with unconditional love…

Why Truth and Love Must Combine…

… the writer’s great weapon is the truth and integrity of his voice. And as long as what you’re saying is what you truly, honestly believe to be the case, then whatever the consequences, that’s fine.Salman Rushdie

authors

We are all authors. Authors of our lives. Authors of our relationships. And authors of how we experience what happens to us. We design whether we’re happy or miserable.

truth

Truth must be a guiding principle. Unless we’re true to self and truth-oriented in general, we’ll never be at ease in this universe. There comes a time when our truth isn’t anyone else’s. Which means that our interpretation of life isn’t accepted by someone else. What’s the way forward? Combine truth with love. The two should be inseparable. Truth by itself can be dry and love alone might be ineffective. Life is always more than it appears…

How To Endure And Overcome!

The willow knows what the storm does not: that the power to endure harm outlives the power to inflict it. Blood of the Martyr

endurance

We’re put through certain experiences to become better humans. We can live all experiences in the following ways:

  • Kicking and screaming: Which means we’ll likely have to relive the lesson being imparted until we get it!
  • Without awareness: We’ll probably learn the specific lesson but may not be very good at applying it broadly.
  • Fully Participating: This kind of participation yields the highest benefits to us, the folks we interact with and therefore the entire Universe.

We gain wisdom and endurance when we fully participate with the plans of the Intelligence that pervades all time and space…

strength

Once we understand that life is a series of lessons and that endurance is a key attribute that God desires us to have, we can ‘flow’ with life… We experience it without kicking and screaming, life is then most meaningful…We can overcome any life situation.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM like the Willow, strong!

The Beginning, End and Middle…

10.20 I am the soul, prince victorious, which dwells in the heart of all things. I am the beginning, the middle, and the end of all that lives. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 10)

in the heart

It has been stated, boldly and explicitly, in most religious texts.

God resides within.

It’s the greatest truth ever that was revealed to man by God and made evident to him, in his own heart. ‘Despair not’, God says, ‘all is well, I’m in your heart, I hear you, I care for you, you’re not alone, rejoice! And remember, I reside in every other heart, so take good care of your brethren, my children.’

all that is

There is nothing but the divine. In our circumscribed internal world, our models of the world, we might dream up that which is not wholesome and make it externally real. But we’re contained in divinity, surrounded by the holy and we march to the drum of the eternal…

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM.
