Why It’s Important To Stay Awake!

We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aid, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn.Henry David Thoreau

awaken to

We’re consummate sleep walkers! We walk around hypnotized, dazed into submission by the lethargy of our habits. As intelligent and creative children of the Universe it’s our prerogative to take life’s rein into our hands. We can do so by becoming awake to each moment…

infinite expectation!

Thoreau was such a poet! Imagine being awake to unknown but enthralling possibilities in our daily lives! Imagine having ‘infinite expectation’ for any moment that we dwell in! Imagine expecting that the finest moment for mankind is just around the corner! Imagine also expecting the best of any individual that we meet, and addressing only the divine within them!

Why We Must Become Master Minds!

Clean but the mirror and the message shines forth.A Course in Miracles (ACIM)

what mirror?

We are born a tabula rasa in my opinion. It takes time and good nutrition to grow healthy bodies; the same principle applies to our minds. Our minds do get disciplined to varying degrees because of schooling and life itself, but we must enforce greater discipline.

master minds

We may discipline our mind to become its true master. Without mastering our minds we’re often at its disposal and therefore often:

  • We’re only happy when things work the way we expect them to
  • Other people control our mental well-being
  • We allow mental addictions to form
  • We’re at the whim of life itself

Stillness, concentration, breathing, mantra chanting and mindfulness are some of the ways we can be more disciplined thinkers.

What’s The Purpose Of Life?

…you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you.Romans 8:9

spirit

Our minds are confined within the perimeter of our bodies, or so it seems. According to revelation there’s also the spirit dimension. Some folks have ‘seen’ that dimension while others have experienced it without seeing it. One way to experience it is to find the peace (and joy!) that resides at our very center. Once discovered this experience becomes a great source of fulfillment. Discover it via Stillness.

so?

What would this Spirit have us do? Just sit and relish it? This peace (and joy) triggers pure love in our being. It’s the kind of love that’s not selfish and doesn’t discriminate. If we allow it, we start to see others in a very forgiving light, we accept them as they are and we’re led to serve while being conduits of this very love… Turns out that this is also a ‘Life Purpose’ we all share! We may discover it via Stillness but we deepen it through selfless and love-filled service to our brethren…

What’s The Meaning Of This Moment?

The more significance you give the moment, the more the moment has the opportunity to be significant.Sunirmalya

the moment

This moment is significant. It’s important because we’re here, right now. It’s where our focus is, it’s where we’re present, it’s all we can experience. As we’ve heard; the past is history, the future is a mystery so all we have is right now, which is why it’s called the Present. It’s a present to us… what will we make of it?

meaning

We find meaning in life by attributing meaning to everything that happens to us. If someone becomes ill we try to understand why that occurred. We think about that person’s genes, lifestyle, possibly their Karma, what they might be attracting to themselves, the environment and many other influences. We try to understand an event the best we can by giving it meaning. So what’s our choice for this moment? It is a choice we make. It can be a ‘choice’ based on our conditioning or it can be a free-willed creation, in the moment. We can choose and create, it’s up to us what meaning we bestow to this precious and holy moment called Now.

Why We Must Start Here…

Better do a good deed near at home than go far away to burn incense.Chinese Proverb

starts here

All effort must start at the base, at home, with us… This means several things:

  1. Gandhi said ‘we must be the change we want to see in the world’. Right off the bat we know it’s us who needs the most work! If we change self, our attitude and perceptions, then we may be ready to go change the world!
  2. It’s easier to be nice to folks at work and to others outside the family. It’s so much harder to be nice, loving and patient with immediate family. Why’s that? A self-examination can help.
  3. Sometimes it’s hardest to be nice to self. We don’t like our hair, our make-up or our body. We’re ever comparing self to others. We’re unable to forgive ourselves. Why do we so often hold self to such high standards? To what end?

goes there

All effort spent on us is well rewarded. We start to get along with us. We’re increasingly more patient with family and others around us. Our improvement is noticeable to others and can become an inspiration to them. All intelligent effort spent on self-improvement will eventually benefit others around us and that’s the ultimate reward for self-improvement!

When Prayer Doesn’t Work!

God changes not what is in people, until they change what is in themselves. The Quran

open

We pray for all sorts of things and most times it’s a monologue emanating from us in the direction of divinity. God already knows what we might want or could ever need; maybe our time is better spent opening up to God? Maybe we should just be listening?

receive

By opening up to God’s exhortations to us, and yes he does talk to us, we allow for maximum spiritual growth and happiness. After all God is our Father and Mother. He’s continuously communicating with us. We can’t hear him because we don’t attempt to listen. Sitting quietly opens us up to listening… We can then change for our own benefit and therefore everyone else’s benefit, and that apparently is part of the plan…

What It Takes…

14.24 Who dwells in his inner self, and is the same in pleasure and pain; to whom gold or stones or earth are one, and what is pleasing or displeasing leave him in peace; who is beyond both praise and blame, and whose mind is steady and quiet…

14.26 And he who with never-failing love adores me and works for me, he passes beyond the three powers and can be one with Brahman, the ONE..The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 14)

equanimity

We use meditation to still our mind. When the mind’s still it connects to Spirit more readily. Without stilling our mind the electro-chemical nature of our body and mind makes it exceedingly difficult to make such contact. Let’s practice stillness.

love

As we increase our contact with Spirit, life becomes easier, we become more peaceful, we’re suddenly more creative, we’re happier, life is good and continues to be an adventure! Loving everyone becomes a whole lot easier!
