No Try, No Dodo!

Try not. Do or do not, there is no try.Master Yoda

no try

When we use the term ‘try’ we’re really sending a signal to our own sub-conscious and to the Universe that we don’t really mean it. Paying attention to our words (and refrains) helps pinpoint our hidden assumptions and attitudes. Watch our thoughts, we must!

no dodo

Doing is great of course, but we live in a culture where we do more than we should, we’re constantly doing, so much so that we’re in danger of becoming Dodos. Balance is essential. Let’s do what really needs to be done and no more, making time for reflection, strategy, thinking and meditation.

Gita: Real vs. Unreal

1.16 The unreal never is: the Real never is not. This truth indeed has been seen by those who can see the true.

1.20 He is never born, and he never dies. He is in Eternity: he is for evermore. Never-born and eternal, beyond times gone or to come, he does not die when the body dies. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 1)

arjun

Arjun the great warrior is perplexed about his duty on the battlefield. ‘Battlefield’ here is also a metaphor for life. He’s face to face with enemies who are his relatives and he’s not sure about engaging them and being the cause of their demise.

krishna

His charioteer is Krishna, the divine personage, whose ‘song’, or ‘Gita’ the Bhagavad Gita truly is! The divine charioteer can also be a metaphor for the ever present divinity inside each soul. Krishna reveals that the soul (our true identity) inside us is eternal. There’s nothing to be truly worried about in life.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM fearless, I face life squarely!

The Bhagavad Gita

To be, or not to be – that is the question.Hamlet by Shakespeare

a spiritual poem, it is

‘To be or not to be’ is also the question that The Bhagavad Gita asks. This holy tome is the spiritual essence of Hinduism and is revered by countless many around the world. On the Kindle I find it easy to read a few passages daily and in so doing I’ve highlighted my favorites. I’d like to share with you, one or more each week.

and timeless

Being can be felt in the silence of the soul.Juan Mascaro

The first translation I read of the Gita was a Penguin Classic by Juan Mascaro. The translation was so simple and easy to understand, whilst still poetic and beautiful, I fell in love with it. I’ll be using the same translation for these blogs, hope you enjoy!

Daily Affirmation: Today I will reflect, I’ll be more aware of all that I experience.

What You Really Want…

What you really want is something that you can’t think about. Now think about that.Howard Vernon

our endless goals

Ok the quote is confusing, and that’s on purpose. We’re often so lost in our thoughts, about plans, things to do, goals to achieve, this, that and the other, that our minds are never at a rest…

true satisfaction

If we can’t be satisfied, now, with all we have and all we are, then our thirst will never be quenched. How can our minds rest? How can we begin to find peace today? By learning to quiet our minds. One simple way is to get out of our minds, literally, and put our attention on our body. Putting our attention on our breathing works real well, try it! Learn about Stillness here.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM my breath.

No One Answer!

There’s never just one right answer…

And there’s never just one right question. The Universe

settled philosophy, there isn’t

We’ll be lost if we ever think we know enough, about anything. The Universe and the Creator are infinite, time itself goes on forever, so if we’re to have any kind of a meaningful eternal existence, there better not be an ultimate truth that’s easy to reach and comprehend. Your thoughts?

q & a, plus more

Yes there’s certainly not one answer, to most questions. Questions there are many, that can be asked. In fact depending on the questions asked, the Universe responds. The question we ask determines what we see. The Universe and our existence is designed for continuous growth, discovery and adventure! Life is good, and it’s exciting!! Dream on….

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM asking more than I’m telling.

This Moment

Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have.Eckhart Tolle

this is it

Now, the present moment is all there is. This doesn’t mean that we live in the current moment forever, it just means that whenever we aren’t planning for the future or reminiscing about pleasant past memories, we ought to notice what goes on … in the present moment.

deepen the experience

There are at least two ways to deepen the experience of the ‘Now’ moment.

  • Through meditation or better still via Stillness. There can be a difference between the two. Stillness is just being still and observing whatever’s going on. It’s the essence of Zen Buddhism.
  • Through a mechanism that reminds us to focus our full attention on what goes on around us and even inside us. Are we irritated because we have a headache or are tired? Attention on the breath, are we breathing deeply or in a shallow way? What are we seeing? The depth of the blue in the sky, the shape of one particular cloud or the direction in which the clouds are sailing. The aromas wafting by or the sound of a child nearby. Using all our senses, we live fully, in the holiness and beauty of the present moment.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM with me.

The Only Prayer!

You need only one prayer to cover every difficulty in life. That prayer is, ‘I pray to see more.’Vernon Howard

ultimately safe

Under what circumstances do we pray? And why? Depending on your religious/spiritual belief system you might agree with me that we’re eventually safe. Nothing can harm us from an eternal point of view. Given that, what should we pray for? What can we pray for?

true understanding

I pray to see more…

Wow, what beauty and simplicity! That’s all we can really ask for, true understanding about what’s going on, a larger view point which puts everything into perspective, and more patience as time and events rollout reality itself.

Daily Affirmation: Today I seek greater understanding.
