How To Live Without Anxiety

4.19 He whose undertakings are free from anxious desire and fanciful thought, whose work is made pure in the fire of wisdom: he is called wise by those who see.

4.20 In whatever work he does such a man in truth has peace: he expects nothing, he relies on nothing, and ever has fullness of joy. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 4)

anxiety filled days

How much anxiety and stress do we tolerate daily? How much of the two are we even aware of? Once we’re aware of why we get depressed and sense the anxiety that engulfs our selves, we’re on our way… Our ‘fanciful’ thoughts about situations, about us and about others are the reason why we keep falling into the emotional thought maelstrom.

expectation is key

What do we expect from others? What do we expect from our day? What about our own selves? We make up ideas about what our life and our day should be like. Often these images get shattered because life doesn’t cooperate with our projected plans. The way to peace is to live in the moment, without any expectations of the future…

Daily Affirmation: Today I just AM, I expect nothing.

What’s ‘The Physics Of The Quest’?

See God in every person, place, and thing, and all will be well in your world.Louise Hay

where the teacher is

Had an interesting experience this afternoon. I was witnessing the graduation of a 12 week Dale Carnegie offering at work, and had the pleasure of hearing from the dynamic facilitator of the class. She ended up sharing her own touching story about how she found the truth about the following quote from the movie ‘Eat, Pray, Love’….

In the end, I’ve come to believe in something I call "The Physics of the Quest." A force in nature governed by laws as real as the laws of gravity. The rule of Quest Physics goes something like this: If you’re brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting, which can be anything from your house to bitter, old resentments, and set out on a truth-seeking journey, either externally or internally, and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher and if you are prepared, most of all, to face and forgive some very difficult realities about yourself, then the truth will not be withheld from you.

where god is

We’re always looking for ‘the’ answer to our quests, our problems and our yearnings. Well the message and the messengers abound! If we only look the answer comes through unexpected ways and means. It’s right around the corner, or is the next person we meet or even the next connection we make in our minds! Let’s look, the answer might be right in front of our figurative noses!

What Is Meditation?

Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet. It’s a way of entering into the quiet that’s already there—buried under the 50,000 thoughts the average person thinks every day.Deepak Chopra

essentials

There are numerous definitions of meditation. One popular idea is that thoughts must cease for us to enter a meditative state. Certainly that could be classified as meditation; however for me meditation consists of 2 essentials:

  1. Discovering and resting in the peace that resides within us
  2. Making direct contact with God

stillness & inspiration

This peace that is nestled just under our stream of thoughts is very approachable. The trick is to be in a state of non-judgmental relaxed awareness. That means we just sit and be. We become relaxed in body and mind. We stay alert, i.e. not fall asleep and maintain awareness of all that goes on inside us, without manufacturing new thoughts about any of it.

Once we experience this peace it’s a great opportunity to:

  • Pray and make direct contact with God
  • Seek inspiration, which appears in the form of sudden thoughts an d ideas
  • Do creative thinking and planning

Who’s The Boss?

Compel your lower nature to obey your higher nature…The Urantia Papers

the higher and the lower

The lower nature is that which frets, worries, fears, feels less than, is jealous, always wants more and never satiated.

The higher nature is that which loves, is kind, serves, is confident, has faith, is peaceful, thoughtful, deliberate, motivated, and has a higher purpose.

you’re the boss

We are and can be victims of genetics and generational, racial and national thought patterns. It can be tough to fight these built-in inertial forces. Because we are will creatures, it’s our prerogative and should be our life-goal to grow and design our life. Which is why we have a mind that’s really under our control. If such is not the case then how can we assert control? Who’s the boss?

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM my own master.

Daily Adventure

Adventure isn’t hanging on a rope off the side of a mountain. Adventure is an attitude that we must apply to the day to day obstacles of life — facing new challenges, seizing new opportunities, testing our resources against the unknown and in the process, discovering our own unique potential.John Amatt

what do we seek?

What are we after when we seek adventure and excitement in our lives? What do we truly want?

life is adventure

Often what we seek is not outside our current situation. If we can approach daily living as an adventure we can enrich our experience, be more fulfilled and not feel as empty. We seek something else… examining that ‘feeling’ deeply will allow us to understand ourselves, that in turn leads to greater serenity…

Daily Affirmation: Today life is the adventure!

How To Find Peace

4.16 What is work? … I will teach thee the truth of pure work, and this truth shall make thee free.

4.18 The man who in his work finds silence, and who sees that silence is work, this man in truth sees the Light and in all his works finds peace. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 4)

what is work?

This chapter continues its treatise on work, check out the book for more detail, God wants all mankind to understand ‘pure work’. Which is work that is done for the highest good, with no selfish motive and to which we are not attached regardless of the outcome.

peaceful silence

It is also work that engenders the peace ‘that passeth all understanding’. When we know we do ‘pure work’ and that the force of the Universe is behind our efforts, that we never fail, regardless of outcome, then we find a peaceful silence in the eternal now in which we conduct our work.

Daily Affirmation: Today I enjoy peaceful silence as I work…

The Best Prayer

I never ask God to give me anything; I only ask him to put me where things are.  – Mexican Proverb

the best prayer?

Just today I was chatting with a friend about what a prayer ought to contain. We both agreed that we should be asking for wisdom and understanding. We also agreed that we shouldn’t be asking for help getting out of problematic situations. Who knows for what purpose we live through life’s experiences? Unless of course the situation is very tough, in which case we thought that God would know our plight even before we asked… and then we might ask for greater strength in the present moment.

the best prayer…

Love today’s quote. God already knows us and our circumstances intimately, better than we do actually Smile! So what should we ask for? Nothing more or less than for:

  • Greater wisdom
  • A long term view
  • The ability to recognize growth opportunities
  • Understanding our place and purpose in the Universe
  • Courage and strength to face life and to be selfless

Daily Affirmation: Today I pray for wisdom and understanding, so help me God!
