The highest happiness is indissolubly linked with spiritual progress. Spiritual growth yields lasting joy, peace which passes all understanding. – The Urantia Papers
We all seek happiness and according to this quote the highest level of happiness is only possible when we make spiritual progress. The reason it makes sense is that at a very deep level the spiritual (What does spiritual mean anyway?) is what really matters. What’s left when our material largess goes away? What’s left when we die? What is it that we can truly take with us into the beyond? Our only true belongings are relationships and happy experiences we have with people around us.
Having such a perspective, knowing the ultimate goal, knowing that the spirit is what truly matters, knowing that God (All That Is) resides within us and inside all those that we encounter; knowing all this and then living it daily, is what builds a spiritual life. Growth along this path, then makes us better capable at handling the vicissitudes of life, helps us truly enjoy life and relationships, and thus contributes directly to a happier life.
How does one obtain a peace that passes all understanding? Great question! Your comments welcome.
