Who’s Betraying Us?

Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt.Shakespeare

traitorous thoughts

Once we get used to watching where our thoughts spring from, next steps can be:

  • 1) Becoming aware of how we get enmeshed in each thought process. When we’re involved in them we’re not being conscious of that activity. When we become aware then that act in itself, helps us distance ourselves from the thought. We notice that we are having these thoughts, we are not the thoughts. This distinction is crucial for our peace of mind.
  • 2) Next notice the quality of these thoughts. Are they the spirit enhancing kind or the opposite? Ferret out thoughts of fear and of doubts. Consciously bring up pleasing thoughts instead or just watch them disappear if we don’t get involved in them and just become aware of them instead.

Both activities above are enhanced by meditation, just 5 minutes twice a day helps! Check out some exercises here. Won’t we do that for self? Lets banish our doubts, be less fearful and forge ahead!!

affirmations

Today I catch my traitorous thoughts and gently expunge them. I AM a child of God and only think lovely thoughts. My beautiful thoughts lead me to an amazing and fulfilling life. I practice love and think of others more than I think of self.

How To Find Our Place In The Sun!

If you want a place in the sun, you must leave the shade of the family tree.  – Osage Saying

agreements

We make subtle agreements with ourselves about everything in life, here are some examples:

  1. I’m smart but not creative.
  2. I can give but others don’t give to me.
  3. My health is poorer now because I’ve crossed this age.
  4. No one really understands me.

What agreements have we made with self? Let’s examine our assumptions, then step out of the box!

affirmations

Today I break free from self-imposed shackles. I think freely, I AM open minded, and I jump at opportunities. I AM the author of my thoughts and I AM aware of all the assumptions I make. I AM a child of god and I know it!!

How To Find Ultimate Happiness…

Your first relationship must be with yourself.  – Neale Donald Walsch

happiness

We must be peaceful first, we must be comfortable in our own skin first, we must know self first, before we can be truly happy.

1) Peace comes when the constant chatter in our mind begins to slow down and when we understand that we’re ultimately safe in God. Practice meditation.

2) Self-respect arrives when we accept ourselves just as we are, even though there’s lot’s to improve. It arrives when we’re not too concerned about what others think of us. Practice affirmations, recognize your own beauty.

3) Self-knowledge arises when we observe our habits, our tendencies, our assumptions and what drives us. Practice awareness.

When we have peace, self-respect and self-knowledge we know that true happiness can be sustained through a selfless approach towards others, an approach that leads to service.

affirmations

Today I AM focused on me. I find peace. I like myself. And I AM aware of my tendencies and proclivities. I know I must be happy first. I flow with God’s love today.

How To Attain Any Quality…

If you want a quality, act as if you already had it. Try the ‘as if’ technique.William James

as if

Making self believe that we can do or achieve something is to win more than half the battle. In psychology this method has been studied and ratified. If we feel depressed, make the face of a happy person, start smiling and try to act as though things are just fine. We’ll feel better.

The reverse works too. How many times have we been pulled down by how others behave? Or by focusing on the negative, how often have we landed in a soup? Thoughts do make things, believe it, act on it, and consequently manifest this belief system!

affirmations

Today I act like a child of God. A child who’s happy and fulfilled. Someone who get’s what’s good for him. Who’s life goes in the right direction with the necessary learning mixed in. I believe in the ‘as if’ technique and will today walk the planet ‘as if’ I know where I AM going and ‘as if’ I AM always loved and gently guided along…

How To Move On!

You actually don’t have to lie in it just because you made your bed.  – Neale Donald Walsch

move on

Sometimes we can get married to the past and the situation that we created. Let not our ego dictate where we might go from here. The first step is to become aware of what we’re doing to self. Next we simply decide to let go and move on. We free ourselves when we do that!

affirmations

I AM letting go today! I AM not tied to decisions or mistakes I made in the past. I AM seeking a fresh start and loving those who are around me. I AM happy and that’s my future!

How To Master Self?

Nothing is more delightful than to possess self-command  in a world of chaos.  – Vernon Howard

self-command

What is mastery of self? How can we maintain peace and composure? How can we help others instead of crumbling under pressure? How can we become such masters?

affirmations

Today I AM at peace. I AM a child of God. I have no worries. I listen to others. I focus on others and provide them support. Nothing can disturb me because of my heritage and inheritance. All is well and it all ends well.

What’s The Risk Of Inaction?

There are risks and costs to a program of action, but they are far less than the long range risks and costs of comfortable inaction.John F. Kennedy

regret

What’s the cost of your inaction today? How long will we stay in our comfort zone, essentially fooling self? Time for some self-examination and truth telling!

Here are some ways in which we might be selling ourselves short:

  • Not expressing love because we feel shy or lazy.
  • Not saying yes to an opportunity because we’re afraid.
  • Saying yes to too much work because work is our comfort zone!
  • Being lazy about our health because staying healthy can be hard work.

Notice that a ‘comfort zone’ comes in many varieties, let’s be aware of them, and assert our will, for what is truly good for us.

affirmations

Today I awaken! I act when necessary. I AM hopeful for my future well-being and act accordingly. I banish fear. I embrace uncertainty. I AM ready for change. I thrive, no matter what! God is my partner so why should I worry?
