How To Keep Growing

Be open-minded and teachable like an unspoiled child.  – The Urantia Papers

being teachable

The biggest malady we all suffer with is not being teachable because we’re so married to our respective perspectives! Our ego comes into play with the pretext that it’s saving our face, but does it really do that? Sometimes my son will point out an error I’ve made and I naturally tend to defend and explain myself. Often for a few moments at least I’ll stay that way before I realize that I’m holding my ground against my own child and that too when he’s right!

like a child

How can we be like a child? The scriptures exhort us to be ‘childlike’ not childish. Have the faith, the expectation, the outlook, the ‘now-focus’ and the joie de vivre that’s so natural to a child. We can do it if we remind ourselves to do it and practice it as much as possible! May you be the child you once were!

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM childlike.

How To Find Love

Your task is not to seek love, but merely to seek & find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.Rumi

we seek love

In whatever we seek, we’re really seeking love. We seek assurance, safety and happiness; these are all the consequences of experiencing the love which can only come from another personality. True love and assurance proceeds from the parent personality that is God, and her love is easier to discover than we might expect…

ask, forgive and expect

Just like our spiritual heritage in general, we block our own experience of love and goodness that’s ever available to us. The steps are as follows:

  • Ask. Talk to God and ask to experience this love.
  • Forgive: Unless we forgive everyone (including ourselves) and extinguish the resentment that sears our hearts, we will not be able to uncover this divine wellspring.
  • Expect: After asking and forgiving, be like a child and expect our parent’s love to be ever present.

Daily Affirmation: Today I walk in God’s love.

Speak To God

True, you do well to pray when harassed, but you should also be mindful to speak as a son to your Father even when all goes well with your soul.Jesus, The Urantia Papers

pray often

Prayer is our constant connection to God (reality). We do best when we can at some level stay connected to that prime reality. Prayer is the means, the way and an end itself. Prayer leads to deep connection. Prayer becomes the connection.

personality, one to another

God is personality. One personality seeks another. Just like the child might seek its parent, so does the parent seek the child. One completes the other, it’s a relationship, one that is timeless and forever. Neglect not to engage in such a supreme adventure!

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM God’s companion, just like he’s mine.

Towards Selflessness

Thoughtfulness is the beginning of great sanctity. If you learn this art of being thoughtful, you will become more and more Christlike, for His heart was meek and always thought of others.Mother Teresa

lost in self

We’re mostly lost in our thoughts, lost in our own world and constantly worrying about us. Even when we think of another’s well being or safety it’s often in relationship with our own needs. We’re essentially selfish…

christlike

Born animal-like it’s understandable that we’re selfish. However true reality, God’s essence resides inside us, ever leading us upwards and onwards. That compelling attraction wants us to think of others first, be thoughtful, be Christlike. which where the oft used phrase WWJD comes from. What would Jesus do? What would goodness do? What would love do, in this or any situation?

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM thoughtful of others.

Feelings…

Never apologize for showing feeling.  When you do so, you apologize for the truth.  Benjamin Disraeli

what we feel

What we feel is what we are. From our feelings we truly know, not just through our intellect, what’s good/bad, right or wrong. In fact feelings are a great guide to what we’re thinking. When thinking positive and happy, we have happy feelings, when worried or fearful our feelings reflect just that. So if we ever want to be cognizant of our thinking, let’s ask  “How am I feeling right now?’

the truth

Let’s acknowledge the fullness of our being by accepting our feelings. Let’s do the same in others. Let’s not disparage a person who appears to ‘feel’ more than ‘think’, who is more ‘emotional’ than logical. All is valuable. Let’s hone in on that which is of value.

Daily Affirmation: Today I value feeling.

Nothing To Worry About!

If suddenly and without warning, you had absolutely nothing to worry about, do you know what the world would begin to look like?Notes From The Universe

like it is

That’s right, your world would look just like it is, right now.

Ponder that…

celebrate

If you agree then it’s time to celebrate! Time to truly enjoy your life and your self. There’s nothing truly to worry about. There’s nothing to be afraid of. Life isn’t demanding anything from you. You are free, now…

Daily Affirmation: Today I roam free!

Real Wealth

Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.  – Oscar Wilde

transient stuff

Stuff doesn’t last. Which means its value is worth questioning. Which also begs the question: What does last?

real value

Does our awareness, our identity, our personality, last? That’s left to what we believe, one might say. It’s my experience that with belief, faith, comes the slow realization that we’re part of something infinitely larger, a loving presence. This presence deepens with the practice of Stillness. Such an experience constitutes personal proof that we last, forever. If we last then so do others. Relationships then are of paramount and lasting value.

Daily Affirmation: Today I value people.
