How To Increase Self-Respect…

Spiritual living mightily increases true self-respect. But self-respect is not self-admiration. Self-respect is always co-ordinate with the love and service of one’s fellows.Jesus, Urantia Papers

self-respect

This is a big topic everywhere we look. Why? Because a lot of our regular failings or shortcomings can be tied to a temporary or permanent lack of self-respect. We don’t trust our own value, we don’t think we amount to much, we know we’re not great and believe we’re not good enough. How to fix this?

spiritual service

Spiritual living comes from at least a few of the following conclusions:

  • That we were created.
  • Therefore we matter.
  • And that everyone else matters too.

That’s the theoretical part. Spiritual living becomes practical when…

  • We serve others every chance we get.
  • We think of the larger good in all our undertakings.
  • When we think selflessly.

Spiritual living builds a healthy self-respect which leads to emotional stability which equals happiness! Who will we serve today?

Why We Must Jump In…

Only the spoon knows what is stirring in the pot.Sicilian Proverb

step in

The reality of the pudding can only be found in tasting it. The best way to live a conscious spiritual life (the reason for this blog) is by stepping into the river that flows eternally…

what’s stirring?

Big changes are astir. When we pay attention we’ll notice that the current stream of events are changing our planet forever. We can be bystanders or we can be active participants. Because everything springs from a spiritual underpinning, we must apply ourselves spiritually. Let’s strive to understand:

  • What is it that’s gnawing at us?
  • What are we upset about?
  • What do we need?
  • What will satisfy us?

The answers and the direction will then be forthcoming!

Why We’re At Home!

God is our Father, the earth our mother, and the universe our birthplace. The Urantia Papers

fear

What’s the core problem we face? I believe it has do with fear. We’re fearful of life and what might happen to us. Ponder that…

How much of our life do we build on this essential belief system? What would happen if we were fearless and at peace? What would it take to be that way?

a decision

In some ways what ‘is’ depends on what we decide it must be. What ‘is’ depends on what we expect from life. What would happen if we accept the following as true?

  1. God is my parent
  2. I’m loved beyond measure
  3. I want for nothing
  4. All is well
  5. All will be well

What Is The Spirit Of Work?

18.46 A man attains perfection when his work is worship of God, from whom all things come and who is in all. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 18)

perfect work

Perfect work is that which benefits others and provides peace of mind to self. Such work is possible when we are ‘devoted’ to it. Such work becomes ‘heavenly’ work when done with the right ‘spirit’! What is this spirit of work?

spirit of work

According to The Gita God is intimately involved in all our activities. It then behooves us to involve God into our daily activities. This is a sure way to perfection and peace. How does one do it though? Here are some examples:

  • As we do anything we do it as though God asked us to do it…
  • We interact with others as though we’re dealing with God…
  • We submit all work deliverables as an offering to God…

Why Judging Doesn’t Help!

God himself, sir, does not propose to judge man until the end of his days. Why should you and I?Dr. Johnson

relationships

I just started reading this classic by Dale Carnegie (linked below) and the first principle he shares on how to build great relationships is ‘Don’t Criticize, Condemn or Complain’! We are complex beings, a muddle of ego, emotions and opinions, we do have to tread carefully when attempting to build long term relationships! When we put someone down by telling them exactly why they’re wrong we rarely achieve the goal of nurturing great relationships. Criticism puts the recipient into a defensive mode and their hurt ego cannot easily respond back positively.

judge not

Why should we judge anyway? Putting self into that mode transports us into that negative vibration and makes life for us more like the recipient of our judgment. Have we observed how often we experience that which we noticed or ‘judged’ in another’s experience? Why is that? The more we stay in a positive vibration, the better it simply is!

Daily Affirmation: Today I judge not!

Why Love?

…the moment you have in your heart this extraordinary thing called love and feel the depth, the delight, the ecstasy of it, you will discover that for you the world is transformed. Paramahansa Yogananda

why love?

Love is a constant theme of this blog! And it’ll continue to be one! Why?

Because the only way forward is through love. The answer to any question is love itself. The only way to banish fear is via love. When love occupies the heart, fear cannot co-exist. Love creates this Universe. It’s the language and the currency of All That Is. Until we understand the importance of cultivating love in our hearts, we’ll stay confused. Love can guide our every step. It banishes all doubt. It’s the way and the only thing that’ll save our planet.

awakening love

How can we awaken the love that’s at our very core? By recognition and practice. When we walk around flowing with and in love, our entire world is transformed.

  1. We must recognize first that it’s something we desire. Can’t reach a goal if we don’t know what it is.
  2. Practice stillness. Such a practice quietens our mind and allows the love inside expression in our lives.
  3. Practice Loving Kindness: Let’s walk around smiling, exuding love and expressing our love through genuine kindness and service. We reap what we practice.

What’s The Finest Gift We Can Give?

17.20 A gift is pure when it is given from the heart to the right person at the right time and at the right place, and when we expect nothing in return. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 17)

why?

Why do we give? We give because we want the recipient to love us and appreciate us. God first gave of herself and when we’re attuned to her we’re compelled to give as well. A gift lands softly in its spot when it’s enrobed in love and fulfills the true needs of the receiver. Such a giver requires nothing in return.

the finest gift

A gift of true understanding and of loved filled service to another is the most we can ever give. Most people are crying out to be understood, to be heard. No one can ever be in our shoes so we’re desperate to be appreciated for what we are. A nonjudgmental gift of true listening, one that overflows with love is the finest gift possible.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM a giver of love and appreciation.
