What’s True Love?

Real love is not two people clinging to each other; it can only be fostered between two strong people secure in their individuality.Daisaku Ikeda

love

Love is appreciating someone for what they are. It’s knowing that their essence is lovely, that they have a magnificence that is often hidden away and that they’re of eternal value.

relationships

Relationships are important because they reveal to us the crucial fabric of all existence; love! Love is at its purest when we interact with an individual at the level of their divinity and serve them according to their needs without expecting anything in return. Who do we love like that? What does love mean to us? How can we live a love-filled life?

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM love personified.

What’s The Meaning Of This Moment?

The more significance you give the moment, the more the moment has the opportunity to be significant.Sunirmalya

the moment

This moment is significant. It’s important because we’re here, right now. It’s where our focus is, it’s where we’re present, it’s all we can experience. As we’ve heard; the past is history, the future is a mystery so all we have is right now, which is why it’s called the Present. It’s a present to us… what will we make of it?

meaning

We find meaning in life by attributing meaning to everything that happens to us. If someone becomes ill we try to understand why that occurred. We think about that person’s genes, lifestyle, possibly their Karma, what they might be attracting to themselves, the environment and many other influences. We try to understand an event the best we can by giving it meaning. So what’s our choice for this moment? It is a choice we make. It can be a ‘choice’ based on our conditioning or it can be a free-willed creation, in the moment. We can choose and create, it’s up to us what meaning we bestow to this precious and holy moment called Now.

Why We Must Start Here…

Better do a good deed near at home than go far away to burn incense.Chinese Proverb

starts here

All effort must start at the base, at home, with us… This means several things:

  1. Gandhi said ‘we must be the change we want to see in the world’. Right off the bat we know it’s us who needs the most work! If we change self, our attitude and perceptions, then we may be ready to go change the world!
  2. It’s easier to be nice to folks at work and to others outside the family. It’s so much harder to be nice, loving and patient with immediate family. Why’s that? A self-examination can help.
  3. Sometimes it’s hardest to be nice to self. We don’t like our hair, our make-up or our body. We’re ever comparing self to others. We’re unable to forgive ourselves. Why do we so often hold self to such high standards? To what end?

goes there

All effort spent on us is well rewarded. We start to get along with us. We’re increasingly more patient with family and others around us. Our improvement is noticeable to others and can become an inspiration to them. All intelligent effort spent on self-improvement will eventually benefit others around us and that’s the ultimate reward for self-improvement!

What Would God Do?

Everything is based on mind, is led by mind, is fashioned by mind. If you speak and act with a pure mind, happiness will follow you, as a shadow clings to a form.Buddha

origin

Our actions originate from mind. Creation springs from God’s mind. Even though ours is a subset of God’s mind, it still has some of its qualities. We are mini creators unleashed into the universe. It’s up to us what we do with this God given gift, this amazingly creative facility!

wwjd?

A pure mind is one that is peaceful and one which thinks of the greater benefit rather than the selfish one. God’s mind is like that too. The trick is to mimic God’s mind in any situation, which is why one might ask a question like: ‘What Would Jesus Do?’. What would God do if She was me? Such an approach leads to happiness.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM God’s Mind.

The Three Modes Of Life…

14.11 When the light of wisdom shines from the portals of the body’s dwelling, then we know that Sattva is in power.

14.12 Greed, busy activity, many undertakings, unrest, the lust of desire – these arise when Rajas increases.

14.13 Darkness, inertia, negligence, delusion – these appear when Tamas prevails. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 14)

3 modes

There are 3 modes of existence, of being, of body types and even of nutrition. Sattva is all about what is goodness, good actions, nutrition that produce good behavior etc.. Rajas has to do with passion and its results. Tamas is living in darkness and ignorance.

so what?

By recognizing these 3 life modes we’re encouraged to follow the highest path possible in all that we do. We’re encouraged to eat right, think right, do right and aspire to the highest life goals.

How To Live From Our Heart…

Where-so-ever you go, go with all your heart. Confucius

there we are

Where ever we go, we take us along. We can’t escape us. Often it’s in recognizing that we’re trying to escape a situation or a feeling, that our biggest growth may lie. Let’s become more aware of what we avoid and try to escape, let’s become more real.

from the heart

We often operate only from the brain, the mind, from the region of the head. Once we notice that, we could move our attention down to our heart region and live from that orientation. Our thoughts, our actions, our attitude, our demeanor and therefore our life-results will be quite different. Let’s try that!

How We Can Grow…

Religious perplexities are inevitable; there can be no growth without psychic conflict and spiritual agitation. The Urantia Papers

perplexities

Life itself is perplexing. Relationships are full of conflicts. How would life be if it were perfect? Imagine Christmas or another holiday, every single day for the rest of our lives…..!!!!!!!!

Not only would it be intolerable, it wouldn’t allow for much growth.

growth

Growth occurs when we face challenges, when we don’t know the step forward and when we struggle to figure life out. Growth flourishes when we’re stuck and when we plead for answers and relief, when we ask thoughtful questions and don’t excoriate self. In almost all cases, what’s occurring right now is just the perfect medicine for our growth into the perfection of eternity. Let’s not despair, it’s all working out just fine, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel!

Daily Affirmation: Today I grow, no matter what!
