Gita: Evenness Of Mind

2.47 Set thy heart upon thy work, but never on its reward…

2.48 …Yoga is evenness of mind – a peace that is ever the same. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 2)

thy work

God instructs us to understand what work is ideal and to devote all effort to it. We’re reminded not to worry or focus on the end result. Control of the mind and protection from its inconsistencies is the goal.

evenness of mind

In most chapters The Gita reminds mankind to cultivate a balanced and even state of mind. One which allows us to stay connected to the divine inside us and one that allows us to stay unflustered.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM still and balanced.

The Real Secret

Go out of your way to make others happy. You cannot please everybody, but to those souls who cross your path, give kindness and love.Yogananda

the secret sauce

The real secret to life is to focus not on ourselves but others. We feel happy when we make others happy, and that raises our own vibrations. Higher, more positive vibrations translates into all-around goodness for us!

a balancing act

Life is a series of balancing acts. On one hand we must love ourselves and pay attention to what works for us. On the other hand we can’t find true happiness without being selfless and of service to others around us.

Daily Affirmation: Today I seek out service opportunities.

Self vs. Success

Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.Maya Angelou

all about us

Success is all about us. It’s about how we perceive our inherent value and the world outside us. If our general outlook is negative or critical, how can we not be critical of self? How can happiness (and success), then, have any chance of finding us?

like yourself

At the end of the day, literally and figuratively, if we’re not happy in our own skin, not happy with our selves, we’re not successful. Let’s grab success by its horns by appreciating what we are, what we have, what we do!

Daily Affirmation: Today I like myself, no strike that, I love myself!

True To Design

Most people are other people.  Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.  – Oscar Wilde

who are we?

How much of us, is truly us? How much is borrowed? Wholesome manners and attitudes are worth imitating, nothing much else is.

discover you

We are truly unique, a creation of the Infinite, impossible to replicate in all of time and in all space.

Ponder that.

Why did God create us to be so?

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM my own expression.

Deep Peace

The person should look for peace within and not depend on it in any other place. There are no waves in the depths of the ocean, it is still and unbroken.- The Buddha

within, it is

The concept isn’t rocket science but how many of us truly believe it, know it or accept it? Peace does come from within even if the object of interaction is outside us. It’s the interpretation of our experiences that allows us to be happy, sad or indifferent. The event is generally out there; our reaction to it comes from within. We choose constantly, it’s up to us.

below the surface

Our normal consciousness inhabits the stormy seas of the thoughts that we continuously manufacture. This storm is at the surface. Just as a scuba diver can descend below the choppy waters to enjoy the prevailing deep calm under the surface, so too can a practitioner of Stillness.

Daily Affirmation: Today I operate from the calm inside me.

A Lion You Be

He who always thinks himself as weak will never become strong, but he who knows himself to be a lion, rushes out from the world’s meshes, as a lion from its cage.Vivekananda

see yourself, how?

Our self-view is a key determinant of what we get out of our life experiences. How do you view yourself? What technique do you use to step back to ascertain your self-view?

a lion

Truly we are lions. We are lions because of our heritage. We come from the infinite. Ponder that.

We are also lions because of our destiny. We grow, slowly, into and towards the source of all that is. Feel the power, be bold!

Daily Recommendation: Today I AM a lion!

Yourself Be

Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.  – Judy Garland

you or them?

While there’s so much to learn from others, there’s only one way to be. Yourself.

which version?

Which version of us will we be? There’s that which we are and that which we have the potential of being. We shouldn’t settle for the version of us that needs further sculpting. We can’t use what’s 2nd rate in us, let alone what is a 2nd rate version of another. Let’s aim higher!

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM who I can be.
