All In Our Mind

All my life I’ve watched people waiting for someone else to make them happy. The way I got it figured, the only one who can make you happy is you. – Aaron Martinson

who or what next?

What will we buy next to quench our desires and to become happy? Who must be a certain way for us to be pleased? What must happen at work and in our careers for us to be satiated? What do we yearn for? What do we truly desire?

all in our mind

Heard that story about the fisherman in Mexico discovered by an American Tourist? If not here it is, pick any link. It’s funny we know this truth but we’re nevertheless compelled to keep seeking. The truth is: We have everything right now to be happy. It’s pretty much all in our mind (and hearts), how we think, what we make of who we are, what we have and what’ll satisfy us. It’s a fine balance of course, we must still strive for the better life. But when is it enough? How do we distinguish between the ever-lasting and the temporal?

From The Force!

A Jedi’s strength flows from the Force. Master Yoda

from the force

It all proceeds from ‘The Force’. The Force is the center and origin of all creation. We come from it, as do the starry realms, our personality, insight, our attributes, you name it, it all comes from it. What does this mean to us today, now?

now what?

If we proceed from the Source itself, then we are connected to an unassailable power. A source that strengthens, guides, and lights us. There must be a plan. There must be a purpose. There must be a better way of doing just about anything. Our quest is to discover our purpose, the larger purpose, the better way of doing things, of making everything and everyone (including us) around us, better….

Daily Affirmation: Today I seek my purpose.

Our Precious Life

This lifetime will never come again; it is precious and irreplaceable.  – Daisaku Ikeda

one life

This lifetime is all we have. All we have is now. How can we best live, today?

precious you

We make our life precious. It’s what we think, what we assume, what we intend, what we envision and what we do that matters. What we keep thinking and doing determines our life’s outcome. We choose our thoughts, we choose the life we live. What will we choose today?

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM responsible for my own life.

What is Success?

Mercy is denied to the successful, for they are incapable of knowing the very beauty of life which is love.J Krishnamurti

what does this mean!?

At first this quote is perplexing, it was to me, then as I reread the paragraph from Krishnamurti’s writings, reproduced further below, here’s my take…

Krishnamurti talks about the encumbrances that come from ‘success’ and its trappings. We want to be successful and that according to him ‘prevents humility’. Unless we can be free of such artificial constructs that weigh us down, our mind cannot experience life as it is. When free of such thought patterns we can experience life as it is, in the current moment. We can then also experience true love (and beauty) which is only present in the here and now. This is the essential Krishnamurti teaching as I understand it…

rest of the quote

Any achievement, whether of the individual or of the collective, becomes a means to power. Success in this world, and the power that self-control and self-denial bring, are to be avoided; for both distort understanding. It is the desire for success that prevents humility; and without humility how can there be understanding? The man of success is hardened, self-enclosed; he is burdened with his own importance, with his responsibilities, achievements and memories. There must be freedom from self-assumed responsibilities and from the burden of achievement; for that which is weighed down cannot be swift, and to understand requires a swift and pliable mind…Mercy is denied to the successful, for they are incapable of knowing the very beauty of life which is love.- Commentaries on Living Series I Chapter 33, Power

Speak To God

True, you do well to pray when harassed, but you should also be mindful to speak as a son to your Father even when all goes well with your soul.Jesus, The Urantia Papers

pray often

Prayer is our constant connection to God (reality). We do best when we can at some level stay connected to that prime reality. Prayer is the means, the way and an end itself. Prayer leads to deep connection. Prayer becomes the connection.

personality, one to another

God is personality. One personality seeks another. Just like the child might seek its parent, so does the parent seek the child. One completes the other, it’s a relationship, one that is timeless and forever. Neglect not to engage in such a supreme adventure!

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM God’s companion, just like he’s mine.

The Role Models

Don’t worry that your children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you.  – Robert Fulghum

us not them

It’s true isn’t it, we’re ever complaining that others don’t listen (we have all the answers)! If they’d only listen and pay attention, their life would be so much better!!

our life

What about our life? Why are we so full of ourselves that we seldom truly notice where we need to change? Heck if we changed our perspective no one else might ever need to change again!! Children and adults are watching us, we make a profound impact on others the way we show up daily.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM the best I can be.

What Is Prayer?

Prayer is not a technique of escape from conflict but rather a stimulus to growth in the very face of conflict.  – The Urantia Papers

what is prayer?

Apparently God is listening for our motivation and intent rather than the content of our prayers. For God the experience of being together via prayer is an end in itself. It’s much like a human child and its parent. The parent in this case already knows the child’s deepest desires and simply wants to be with the child during the conversation (or monologue!)…

a growth technique

Prayer has many benefits, here’s a couple that I understand:

  • A way to have a one-on-one conversation with the Creator.
  • A way to know ourselves. When we talk to or pray to God, we reveal to our self, what’s most important. If we pay attention, prayer becomes a growth technique. We understand our values better.
  • The highest prayer is one for higher values, understanding and growth.

What do you pray for?

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM my prayer.
