How Love Is Born …

The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.  – Morrie Schwartz

receive first

Last week I had shared the above quote with you; wanted to revisit it because it’s so central to all that we truly need. We all seek happiness and fulfillment. That may come via worldly pursuits such as relationships, career and money. But truly what we seek at a deep level is simply love and security. We can’t manufacture love. That’s because it’s a central reality of the Universe and God the creator is its source. We must receive the love first. That’s the only way we can experience it and the only way we can possibly shower it on any one else. To receive loads of love there are 2 requirements:

  1. We must think it’s possible to receive it; then ask for it.
  2. We must be whole enough to receive it.

Step one is accomplished via prayer. Step 2 is made possible when we ask for forgiveness and forgive all around us. Guilt, fear and love cannot coexist.

then conduit it…

One essential life purpose, it’s clear, is to receive and conduit the currency of the universe, love… Love is what ties us to our creator and to each other. It’s what will eventually create the network that will lead to the spiritual dawn this planet yearns for. And the only way to fully experience and increase the love that we ask for and receive, is it to then pass it along. Love increases as we give it away. Why is that? Because we actually live it and feel it as we give it away, the person who receives it experiences it as well, so by giving our love to just one more person we’ve doubled it!

Daily Affirmation: Today I channel the love I receive. I give so that I can have.

The Way Of Silence

6.24 When all desires are in peace and the mind, withdrawing within, gathers the multitudinous straying senses into the harmony of recollection,

6.25 Then, with reason armed with resolution, let the seeker quietly lead the mind into the Spirit, and let all his thoughts be silence. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 6)

constant theme

A harmonious mind that withdraws inwards is what The Gita touts as being the main pre-requisite to contact with the Divine.

in the silence

A resolute mind that’s in the silence can approach ‘Spirit’ which resides in such a mind. In the continued silence can be heard the guidance of the spirit. It’s the ‘still small voice’ that struggles to be heard beyond the electro-chemical storm that brews inside our brains. It’s also a joyous explosion of love that can be felt rising from the deepest parts of such a quiet mind. It’s palpable and very real.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM still and conscious of THAT which IS.

How We Bloom…

No creature is fully itself till it is, like the dandelion, opened in the bloom of pure relationship to the sun, the entire living cosmos.D.H. Lawrence

to what end?

Yes we are the creation. We live in the midst of the most ambitious and grand undertaking in time and space. We’re part of an unrelenting march of life through this almost limitless universe that houses all space and all time. What is our place in this creation? What are we doing here? Why? To what end? Where are we headed? Who are we?

the creator

Many indicators suggest that this creation in which we all dwell and have our being is the handiwork of a master creator. This creator participates personally in her creation and cares for all happenings big and small. He cares for people and relationships because apparently love is the currency of this universe and increasing this love is a purpose of it all. Let’s ponder that!

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM aware of and reach for the Creator Sun!

Listen To Be Heard

Listen or thy tongue will keep thee deaf.Native American Indian Proverb

listen to me

All humans have a deep desire to be heard, to be understood, to show that they matter and to prove their worth to others. Where do we want to be heard? What are we trying to prove? How are we not listening?

deep listening

Let’s listen so that there’s no chatter in our mind. Let’s not compile our response to others, while they talk :)! Can we hear the flutter in their voice, the subtle nuances, the pain or joy? Can we notice their body language, facial expressions and what might lie under their expressions? Can we sense their being, their motive, and desires? All of this lies just under the words they speak. So let’s listen deeply!

Daily Affirmation: Today I listen deeply by focusing on the other.

What The Soul Yearns For…

The soul is kissed by God in its innermost regions.

With interior yearning, grace and blessing are bestowed.

It is a yearning to take on God’s gentle yoke,

It is a yearning to give one’s self to God’s Way.Hildegard of Bingen

opening up

As we become more still and as we enjoy the harmony that comes from such stillness we draw closer to that which is, inside us. That’s the place where our soul, our essence, comes in direct contact with God. Such harmony and stillness is not even possible unless we open up and give ourselves up to such an encounter. With our permission the path starts to become paved…

god’s way

The way of God is gentle. God is our parent and knows us more thoroughly than we can know anyone or anything. She prods us very gently towards her way, towards love, acceptance, forgiveness and gratitude. The result is beautiful. We find love, joy and poetry in the apparently commonplace prose that is life.

Daily Affirmation: Today I become God’s poetry.

Reaching Freedom

5.27/28 When the sage of silence … closes the doors of his soul and, resting his inner gaze between the eyebrows, keeps peaceful and even the ebbing and flowing of breath; and with life and mind and reason in harmony, and with desire and fear and wrath gone … he in truth has attained final freedom.  The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 5)

harmony

Having overcome desire for the frivolous, fear and anger, the person in pursuit of ultimate reality approaches harmony. Harmony promotes a deeper connection with all that is.

stillness

Meditation can help us reach that state of harmony; as we become more still, the spirit within us has more sway over our conscious mind. That’s especially true if we desire that guidance. The harmony in turn leads us to a deeper contact with inner reality. Harmony and meditation, feed each other. Regular meditation allows us to move in harmony through-out the day, doing that in turn deepens our practice of meditation.

Daily Affirmation: Today I move in harmony and stillness.

What Is Sin?

5.17 Their thoughts on Him and one with Him, they abide in Him, and He is the end of their journey. And they reach the land of never-returning, because their wisdom has made them pure of sin. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 5)

meditation

According to this the holiest book of Hindus, God is the grand purpose and the prime destination of life. One practice essential in contacting this godhead is meditation. This verse prescribes how a mortal can reach the ultimate human goal.

sin

Any action or thought that takes us away from our prime objective can be tagged as ‘sin’. The wisdom that we apply to daily living along with meditation leads us to life’s goal. Knowing the destination and the means to get to that destination is knowledge that’s precious.

Daily Affirmation: Today I seek the ultimate goal.
