Being Original

Originality is unexplored territory. You get there by carrying a canoe – you can’t take a taxi. – Alan Alda

being childlike

Originality and creativity come from a playful mode of being. To be creative is to be child-like. As we know children are rarely in a hurry. Children are also extremely curious. And, children always want to have fun. Combine the 3 and we might be onto something!

fun + curiosity + eternity

Life can’t be lived by a formula but the human mind always creates one. When we bring childlike fun and curiosity together along with an easy going attitude the result will likely be an original creation.

Daily Affirmation: Today I create by being childlike.

Terra Firma!

I like terra firma; the more firma, the less terra.  – George S. Kaufman

firma

How do we find stability amidst constant change? How do we feel good during turmoil? How can we forge-on despite setbacks?

terra

For one by beating fear. Also by laughing at ourselves especially when we take us and life too seriously! In fact that ought to be a big clue! As soon as we start taking our life and circumstances too seriously, let’s step back, tickle ourselves and others involved and laugh ourselves crazy!!

Daily Affirmation: Today I laugh.

Love To Do …

To discover, there must be no fear of not surviving.  – Krishnamurti

discovery

Krishnamurti talks about how one might discover what one loves to do…

To find out what you love to do demands a great deal of intelligence; because, if you are afraid of not being able to earn a livelihood, or of not fitting into this rotten society, then you will never find out. But, if you are not frightened, if you refuse to be pushed into the groove of tradition by your parents, by your teachers, by the superficial demands of society, then there is a possibility of discovering what it is you really love to do.

being fearless

To make such a journey we must be fearless. Then we can truly discover what we love to do, who we are and what will fulfill us. Why does fear stymie our efforts? How can we erase fear? How can we be free?

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM fearless.

Liberating Action

3.9 The world is in the bonds of action, unless the action is consecration. Let thy actions then be pure, free from the bonds of desire. The Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 3)

action can bind

We undertake all action to satisfy ourselves at some level. The desire to achieve, to gain, to own and towards pleasure is selfish. Even when we help or serve others it satisfies an inner need. Any such action, according to The Gita is binding, it’s done for gain, it keeps the cycle that starts with desire leading into action, going endlessly.

pure action

Pure action is when we do things that must be done, need to be done, is good for most, and are not attached to its outcome. It’s action where the outcome is submitted and left to God instead… We act in good faith and we move on, unperturbed by the result.

Daily Affirmation: Today I devote all action to God.

Best Of Times…

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way …

Charles Dickens

the present

It’s in the eye of the beholder and how we’re experiencing it. It is the best of times for many of us, especially those who have loving families, want for nothing and are happy. It’s also the worst of times for many of our brethren, the countless who are poor, ill, heart-broken, in despair and without hope. It was essentially the same 200 years ago as it is today.

up to us

There’s reality and then there’s what we can do with it. Our attitudes, perceptions, beliefs, assumptions, intentions and affirmations will decide how we live today and tomorrow. What perspective will we choose?

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM happy.

Bad Luck

Bad luck is universal. Don’t take it personally.  – Solomon Short

bad and good

Bad and good is often in the eye of the beholder and in the way the chips ultimately fall. What’s bad for us today may turn out to be good for a larger group of people than just you and I, even for you and I. Luck is often a matter of expectation. The thoughts and expectations that consume us daily resolve into our life today and tomorrow…

taking it personally

The world is not all about us. When others are unkind, it’s not about us, it’s mainly about them. We lash out at others, get angry and make judgments because of our own universe of thought and experiences. When good comes our way it’s ok to take it personally, although when it goes away we’ll feel sadder. When ‘bad’ comes our way, then certainly it’s not about us. Let’s accept reality for what it is and figure out a way forward…You are not alone.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM my good luck.

Believe, You Must

Skywalker: "I don’t believe it".
Yoda: "That, is why you failed".

belief expands

Ok so why does believing first, work? When we believe, when we have faith, we expand our mind and its horizons. It’s like studying a map before venturing on a mountain adventure. We know in advance that a path exists or is possible and that does the trick. When possibility doesn’t exist in our minds, we often don’t see it even when staring at it.

growth and expansion

We grow only when we have faith and belief. The child when learning to walk will put her foot forward even though she has never walked or has already failed at previous attempts. Something inside her tells her, it’s possible… When something becomes possible in our mind, the Universe swings into action. It’s God’s purpose to further creation, through us, in our unique ways…

Daily Affirmation: Today I embrace possibilities.
