Signs For Life

All things are filled of signs, and it is a wise man who can learn about one thing from another. – Plotinus.  – Plotinus

there if we notice

If we believe that life isn’t random and that there might be a design as well as a designer then life and things have meaning. Meanings that we must discover, patterns that we must uncover, and connections that hide undercover.

creating meaning

But assuming that there is pre-existing meaning might be a mistake. Here’s why: It could be quite possible that God (the designer) is delighted when we give things and events our own meaning, brand new meaning, something not put together ever before!! In other words creation rejoices when we create. What do you think?

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM watchful for signs.

An Eternal Voyage

…death is only the beginning of an endless career of adventure, an everlasting life of anticipation, an eternal voyage of discovery.  – The Urantia Papers

where next?

Do you think about what’ll happen to you after your body gives up? There’s really 3 possibilities I think:

  1. Nothing happens, we just die.
  2. We live on in ‘heaven’ or ‘hell’.
  3. We’re born repeatedly on earth until we attain a certain state.

The Urantia Papers offer a variation around option #2. There’s no heaven (or hell) to be found immediately after death, life goes on, a life filled with reunions, learning, growth and increasing awareness of reality… more on this here and especially here.

what changes?

So if you were eternally ‘safe’ …

  • How would you live daily?
  • What would you do?
  • How would you be?

Daily Affirmation: Today and tomorrow I AM!

Living With Honor

The greatest way to live with honor in this world is to be what we pretend to be.Socrates

be our pretensions

Love this quote because it’s not asking us to not be what we pretend to be, but it asks us to consider being what we pretend to be! That would be honorable indeed because we would then be true to our core.

true inside out

So let’s examine our day, our thoughts and our beliefs. What do we pretend to be? Do we pretend to be a good listener to our spouse and kids? Then let’s start listening. Do we pretend to be a conscientious worker, then let’s lose that pretense and make it real. Do we pretend to be devout and religious? Let’s connect with God directly and live by spiritual principles… Find the pretense and make it real!

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM real.

Which Wolf?

Which wolf will win? The one you feed.  – Cherokee Wisdom

the story of the 2 wolves

I came across this story again lately, you’ve probably read it before:

A Cherokee elder was teaching his grandchildren about life. He said to them, “A fight is going on inside me… it is a terrible fight between two wolves. One wolf represents fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, hatefulness, and lies. The other stands for joy, peace, love, hope, humbleness, kindness, friendship, generosity, faith, and truth.

This same fight is going on inside of you, and inside every other person, too.” The children thought about it for a minute. Then one child asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The Cherokee elder replied… The one you feed.

which wolf?

We exercise a choice with each thought. When we’re not thinking, or when tired, vengeful or irritated we tend to feed our darker side. When we choose the way of goodness, faith, humility, love and kindness we support that which upholds the entire universe, the Truth.

Question: What choice do I tend towards?

Daily Affirmation: Today I feed the goodness inside me.

Best Of Times…

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way …

Charles Dickens

the present

It’s in the eye of the beholder and how we’re experiencing it. It is the best of times for many of us, especially those who have loving families, want for nothing and are happy. It’s also the worst of times for many of our brethren, the countless who are poor, ill, heart-broken, in despair and without hope. It was essentially the same 200 years ago as it is today.

up to us

There’s reality and then there’s what we can do with it. Our attitudes, perceptions, beliefs, assumptions, intentions and affirmations will decide how we live today and tomorrow. What perspective will we choose?

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM happy.

Receiving Help

We don’t receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey no one can take for us or spare us. –Marcel Proust

our journey

It’s true that no one can live our life for us even if we wanted that. That surely is part of the grand purpose of our existence. Experiencing life in our unique ways, becoming wiser, adding to God’s own experience in this eternal adventure that’s afoot, is some of the journey…

ask and receive

Turns out that even though we must live it ourselves and make our own decisions, help is available. The Universe is truly a synchronistic playground. We play, we fumble, we learn, we grow and we find our way. Just like children, we get help when we ask for it. Ask, and thou shall receive. That utterance by Jesus is literally true. What kind of help will we seek today?

Daily Affirmation: Today I ask for the help I need.
