What Questions Must I Ask?

What do I intend to do about that?Neale Donald Walsch

questions!

Neale calls them the 3 persistent questions and the 4 fundamental questions of life, reproduced below! We started with persistent question #1 here: What Is It That? Fundamental question #4 is presented above.

what next?

This has been a journey in self-enquiry. It’s a journey that can never end because our selves are deeper than we can imagine. We’re a fragment of the divine creator of it all. We have the ability to co-create with God and it’s up to us what perspective we adopt while on this journey. An adventurous and hopeful perspective will serve us well, because All Is Well and it’s never been otherwise. Rejoice and be happy!

THE THREE PERSISTENT QUESTIONS

1. How is it possible that 6.9 billion people can all claim to want the same thing (peace, security, opportunity, prosperity, happiness, and love) and be singularly unable to get it?

2. Is it possible that there is something we do not fully understand about life, the understanding of which would change everything?

3. Is it possible that there is something we do not fully understand about ourselves, about our own life and its purpose, the understanding of which would shift our reality and alter our experience for the better, forever?

THE FOUR FUNDAMENTAL QUESTIONS OF LIFE

1. Who am I?

2. Where am I?

3. Why am I where I am?

4. What do I intend to do about that?

How To Make Contact With Reality

Only when the mind is wholly silent, completely inactive, not projecting, when it is not seeking and is utterly still – only then that which is eternal and timeless comes into being. Krishnamurti

the thought machine

The mind wants to think, often repeatedly, about the same things. Even when we think we’ve had an original idea, when we trace it back, we realize it was a conditioned response based on what we already know or what we’ve already experienced. Here’s an example: Someone says ‘Look at that beautiful flower’. What do we think? We start thinking about the flower. We compare it to other flowers we’ve seen in the past or we judge its beauty. We don’t actually look at the flower and experience its profound beauty. We manufacture thoughts about the flower and about related topics, never really allowing self to just be and witness the miracle that is that flower…

finding stillness

Who manufactures thought? We do! Why is that often a problem? Because by incessantly creating thoughts we pre-occupy our minds and rarely allow clarity to emerge. It’s like constant ripples on a beautiful lake that don’t allow the lake-bed ever to be seen, or the perfect blue sky ever to be reflected! The trick (with practice) is to just be, see things, emotions, people and events for what they are. When we create thoughts about the experience we miss the real thing. It’s like reading about the aroma of a freshly-baked cake and not actually experiencing it first-hand!

How To Be Anger Free!

Anger always comes from frustrated expectations.Elliott Larson

expectations

If there was one thing we could fix that would guarantee our happiness it would have to be our expectations from life, of others and self. We suffer in direct proportion to our expectation from any event. How many movies have we enjoyed when we didn’t expect much from them? How many restaurant experiences have been so-so because we expected more? What about spouses and kids? Are we suffering daily because of what we expect from them?

easier said

It’s all easier said than done of course. So how can we get going on this path? By watching our thoughts, our beliefs and therefore our expectations constantly. If we’re sick and expect the whole extended family to drop everything and tend to us then we’re guaranteeing our disappointment. Instead expect little. One might say that if we expect little from Life we’ll get less from it. That might be true. We might expect a lot from life and not tie our happiness to the outcome in that case. Seek God’s will instead. At the end of the day all we can do is give life our best shot…

How Can Silence Help?

Language can only deal meaningfully with a special, restricted segment of reality. The rest, and it is presumably the much larger part, is silence.George Steiner

when words fail

Often we find ourselves in situations where words fail. This might be when the other person is not listening or when we can’t add much value with words. Remember situations when another person has suffered a tragedy and we don’t quite know what to say? Or when we say things we don’t quite mean?

silence…

When all else fails, silence speaks volumes. A silent mind is energized and motivated. Silence is often the best policy when others are not listening. It also works wonders when we don’t know how to console another. And certainly it does the trick when we’re just filling space with meaningless chatter.

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM silent.

The 3rd Fundamental Question Of Life

Why am I where I am?Neale Donald Walsch

questions!

Neale calls them the 3 persistent questions and the 4 fundamental questions of life! We started with persistent question #1 here: What Is It That? Fundamental question #3 is presented above.

why am I here?

Next we ought to explore why we’re ‘here’! Why are we:

  • Where we live?
  • In the relationship we’re in?
  • In this vocation or job?
  • In this country?
  • On this planet?
  • Here??

Questions, the right questions lead us to the next step. When we ask questions God answers! Try it!

Daily Affirmation: Today I am questioning why I’m here!
