What We Really Want…

Who are you that is lost and trying to build a concept of yourself in order to be found?  – Michael A. Singer

searching

We are lost. We are constantly searching for an almost elusive self. That is what we truly want, to be in touch with our deep self. We look externally…

found

We can be found. Not by building a whole mental concept of who we are and what we do. But by stepping back and witnessing. We are pure consciousness that witnesses what happens. We’re not our thoughts and we’re certainly not what we buy.

perfect past

Life is perfect and is so designed. Even when things haven’t gone as we had wanted and despite unsavory events Life has conspired to maximize our growth. Do we resist Life or do we let Life flow through us? What choice are we making today?

When Expectation Is Ok!

Expectation is a gift not a burden!  – From Cyberspace

root of all evil?

When we expect from others, we’re bound to be disappointed! That’s because we’re steeped in our own thoughts and assumptions which in turn are a result of our past. We cannot truly be in another person’s heart…

perspective

We do feel burdened by what others expect of us! However, we shouldn’t be, as the rest of this quote suggests, the real reason people expect from us is because they believe in us, they trust us and they rely on us! Now that’s a positive spin that can work for us, at least occasionally!

How To Be Happy!

Uplift everybody and uplift yourself!Yogi Tea

us first?

We seek to maximize our personal happiness and security. And for that reason we can be selfish. Even though happiness lies inside us the path inward might begin out there!

them first

If we spend time thinking of others first, making them happy, giving others hope, pointing out the silver lining to others, then we feel better. A long string of studies including one 2000 person study (referenced in book below) found that ‘acts of altruism—giving to friends and strangers alike—decrease stress and strongly contribute to enhanced mental health’. So let’s make others happy first!

How To Write Our Worries Away…

The problem of life is to change worry into thinking and anxiety into creative action.Harold B. Walker

the problem

Sometimes all we do is worry without being clear about the problem. When that happens we tend to procrastinate. The more we procrastinate the greater the level of stress due to inaction. What can we do about this?

life principles

4th Basic Technique in Analyzing Worry: Write out and answer the following questions:
     a. What is the problem?
     b. What are the causes of the problem?
     c. What are the possible solutions?
     d. What is the best possible solution?

Writing about the situation can be very helpful. Even if we don’t have a solution, we move forward when we express the problem via writing. Let’s try it!

Why Routine Can Be Bad!

One should always be a little improbable.Oscar Wilde

routine

Routine is good when it allows us to set and achieve daily goals. It can ensure that we be healthy and happy. But routine can be counter-productive.

hypnotized

We generally move around hypnotized, lost in our thoughts and do our regular chores without being completely awake. And therein lies the rub. Because we’re not awake and present to the moment, we miss out on life. The way to fully participate and be a little unpredictable as a result, is to be keenly alive and in the moment!

Daily Affirmation: Today I AM awake!
